After more than 26 years of dedicated service to the Town of Addison and an incredible 28 years in the fire service, Captain John Tisdale, better known as "Tizzy" has officially hung up his helmet!

His many years of service have left a meaningful mark on our department, our members, and the Addison community.

The median age of the first time homebuyer is now 40. This is due in part by the increased cost of homes, high mortgage rates, and minimal savings. This may help explain why Addison has 20% of our single-family homes as rental properties.

We celebrated a push in ceremony this morning of two of our latest AFD apparatus additions. Push in refers to a long-standing firefighter tradition of pushing in horse drawn,  firefighting apparatus. Today we celebrated Rescue 101 and Squad 101.  Rescue 101 is quite notable not only for its unique Addison blue color scheme but also it’s an impressive vehicle that is utilized to fight fires at Addison Airport. Thank you to all who participated in the celebration today.

🚒 A Tradition as Old as the Fire Service Itself

Long before sirens and diesel engines, firefighters pushed their horse-drawn apparatus into the station by hand. Today, that tradition lives on as departments welcome new equipment into service alongside their crews and communities.

On Saturday, August 22, we're keeping that tradition alive. Addison Fire Department officially pushes Rescue 101 and Squad 101 into the station, and we’d love to have you there!

We'll also be announcing the name YOU picked for our new ARFF! 👀✈️🚒
It’ll be a short and sweet ceremony, so stop by, say hi to the crews, and get an up-close look at our newest apparatus.

It was a sad day as my favorite Addison restaurant was open for the last night. Cantina Laredo opened in Addison in 1984 as the brands first concept location before expansion. It has been a favorite for many throughout the area. Thank you to General Manager Patrick Campbell, and all of his team for making so many experiences so special. You will be missed. 

A major zoning change is under consideration just outside our borders. The northeast corner of Midway Road and Proton Drive may change from Light Industrial to Multi-Family. The City of Farmers Branch City Council is expected to make this decision on August 18, 2026. No doubt this property can be of greater value, but I struggle with the thought of the proposed development as nothing but parking on the first floor is awkward, parking is less than half of what is required, and exterior views looking down on industrial properties will not help leasing.
