John has practiced law in Texas since 1984 and has built an exceptional career in estate planning, Medicaid planning, VA pension qualification, and Elder Law. He is a Certified Elder Law Attorney, Board Certified in Tax Law and in Estate Planning and Probate by the State of Texas, a CPA, and an Accredited Attorney with the Veterans Administration.

NAELA is the leading national professional association dedicated to improving the quality of legal services for older adults and individuals with disabilities. With more than 4,000 member attorneys across the country, NAELA plays an important role in helping families navigate complex decisions involving long-term care planning, public benefits, guardianship, estate planning, disability rights, and financial security.

We are proud to have John as part of the Addison Rotary Club and grateful for the expertise, service, and compassion he brings to our community.

Addison Rotary is proud to brag on one of our own: Cathy Zelzer and her wonderful dog, Lexi!

Cathy and Lexi have completed an incredible 180 therapy dog visits to fire and police departments, children’s hospitals, nursing homes, and many other places where a little kindness can make a very big difference.

Lexi is certified by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, a meaningful achievement that takes training, temperament, consistency, and a very special dog. Cathy is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and last year she was named Rotarian of the Year.

Together, Cathy and Lexi are quite the accomplished pair. More importantly, they brighten lives, lift spirits, and bring happiness wherever they go.

After all, whose day isn’t better after getting a little dog love?

Thank you, Cathy and Lexi, for living out Service Above Self in such a joyful and compassionate way.

The Addison Rotary Club is so proud of one of our own, Jill Jacobs Cumnock, CEO of Ronald McDonald House of Dallas!

Jill has been named a finalist in the Leadership Excellence: Large category for D CEO’s Nonprofit & Corporate Citizenship Awards 2026.

This reflects Jill’s outstanding leadership and her unwavering commitment to supporting families with ill and injured children. This honor recognizes what so many already know: Jill is a compassionate, dedicated, and effective leader whose work provides comfort, care, and stability to families during some of the most difficult times of their lives.

Addison Rotary has long been proud to support Ronald McDonald House of Dallas, and we are especially proud to see Jill’s leadership recognized in this way.

Cynthia Lee made a compelling presentation today on the topic of cardiac health. Her presentation - "My Heartfelt Inheritance You Don't Want" - covered her unexpected journey through heart disease. We all learned something from her experiences - thank you, Cynthia, for sharing.

Her suggestions include getting an EKG (electrocardiogram), knowing your cholesterol and blood glucose levels - AND adding lipoprotein A to measure genetic cholesterol.

In this clip, Cynthia discusses the importance of testing. Excellent programs like this is just one reason to check out the Addison Rotary Club! We meet every Friday at 7:30 am in the International Plaza 3 building, located at 14241 Dallas Parkway. It is on the southbound service road between Belt Line and Spring Valley.

One cardiac patient’s suggestions Cynthia Lee’s surprising heart journey may help protect you, a family member, or friend.

Our very own Mike Pugh gave an engaging presentation to the Plano The Plano Rotary Club on June 3. Joining Mike was Addy, a 'graduate' of the Rotary Youth Exchange. Addy shared how her trip overseas years ago continues to impact her life as she still travels with the lifelong friends she made!

Mike is deeply committed to Rotary, serving as a District Chair for Rotary Youth Exchange, and is slated to serve as the Rotary District 5810 Governor in 2028-29. Addison Rotary is proud to serve our community with Mike!

Thank you to Ann Germann from The Senior Source for joining the Addison Rotary Club on May 28 to share the important work behind their Beat the Heat program.

Ann’s presentation was a powerful reminder that extreme summer heat can be especially dangerous for older adults. The Senior Source is helping protect seniors across greater Dallas by distributing window air conditioning units, box fans, and other support to help older adults stay safe in their homes.

Through this program, The Senior Source has already distributed:

✅ 600+ window air conditioner units
✅ 200+ box fans

There are also upcoming volunteer opportunities for distribution events on July 11 in Irving and July 25 in Oak Cliff.

We appreciate Ann and The Senior Source for the practical, compassionate, and life-protecting work they are doing for older adults in our community.

Our Foundation made a $1,000 grant to Project Mom Bags! This organization provides comfort items to moms of babies in the cardiac ICU. Each bag costs about $150 and is filled with comfort and hygiene essentials.

Project Mom Bags makes sure the moms of these critically ill babies are seen and supported in their journey!

The Addison Rotary Club was honored to welcome Amber Bogardus, Laura Hardy-Falls, and Emily Morrow from Project Mom Bags.

Their mission is simple but powerful: providing thoughtfully packed “Mom Bags” to support mothers with children in the cardiac care ICU during one of the most challenging and emotional moments of their lives. Each bag includes postpartum recovery supplies, hygiene items, comfort essentials, snacks, resources, and encouragement.

Whether it’s day one or day fifty, their goal is to remind moms:
You are seen. You are supported. You are not alone.
