The group meets four times a year, on the third Thursday of March, April, September, and October, at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall.
The Addison Historical Society dates back to March 7, 1974, when a group of citizens saw the need to collect and preserve historical artifacts and materials, which would establish or illustrate the history of the area. The purpose of the organization, which began with 31 charter members, is to bring together those people interested in history, especially in the history of Addison, and is dedicated to promoting the understanding of that history. There is an annual field trip for members, as well as a potluck dinner held in late Fall. Members sponsor seasonal craft workshops for children and help with tours of the buildings during school field trips and village events. Over the years, the group has conducted garage sales, craft and cookie sales, raffles, and other fundraisers, to support the museum and the preservation of the Century House.

Museum Open for Kid-Friendly Oktoberfest Fun
On Friday, October 16th from 5-7pm and Saturday, October 17th from 3-5 pm, the Addison Historical Museum will be open for families to enjoy free activities, co-sponsored by the Addison Public Library. Listen to our storytelling performers, enjoy a chilled root b**r, and take a craft kit to complete at home or at the main Oktoberfest tent near the Village Green.

The Addison Historical Museum is open for touring Wednesday through Friday from 11am-4pm. The museum is also open the Second Saturday of the month from 12-4pm. Group tours or archives access can be scheduled by advanced appointment by calling (630) 693-7579. Admission is FREE.

After taking the summer off, the Addison Historical Society and Addison Public Library are pleased to resume our free historical public programming. On Thursday, September 17th, we will host Barbara J. Barrett and her program, "Driving Forces: 100+ Years of Women Influencing, Buying, Designing, and Driving Automobiles." Learn about early female automotive pioneers, and their impact on national history.
The program is free to the public, but pre-registration is required. Please visit addisonlibrary.org/events to register.

Welcome Emily!
Emily Hirst, who has served as the Museum’s seasonal assistant since May will be taking on the role of Museum Coordinator. Emily has a Masters in History with a Concentration in Historical Administration from Eastern Illinois University. She previously worked as the Program Director for the Poplar Grove Plantation House and Museum in Wilmington, North Carolina. She and her husband Scott relocated to the Chicago area late last year.

Thank You, Susan!
Susan English, Museum Coordinator for the Addison Historical Museum has announced her plans to retire on September 11, 2026 after ten years of full-time service to the Addison Historical Society and Village of Addison. Susan plans to relocate to Florida to be closer to her parents.
"I am extremely proud of the award-winning accomplishments we have achieved during my tenure in Addison, English stated. "We have upgraded museum displays and introduced online exhibitions; we have partnered with the Addison Public Library on innovative local history programming; we have increased the museum's relevance during Village of Addison special events by offering unique historical presentations; we successfully published a second History Volume of Addison; and we launched a successful virtual walking tour app." In addition, the staff, Historical Society Board, and Historical Commission enrolled the museum in the Standards and Excellence Program for Historical Organizations offered by the American Association for State and Local History and have been working diligently to professionalize behind-the-scenes operations, policies and procedures of the museum since 2020.
