AI is making its way into manufacturing fast. But adding AI to a factory doesn’t automatically make the factory more intelligent.

The real question is: Does AI understand what’s actually happening on the shop floor?

Which job is running?
Which machine and operator are involved?
What process should be followed?
What engineering requirements apply?
What happened during previous runs?
And what needs attention right now?

Without that context, AI can find data.

With it, AI can understand the situation behind the data.

🔦 Employee Spotlight: Shivam Soni, ML Engineer ⭐

This month, we’re spotlighting Shivam, who has played a key role in building HAL, Harmoni’s AI Lieutenant designed to bring intelligence directly to the people who need it.

For Shivam, one of the best parts of working at Harmoni is the ownership. He gets to take ideas from concept to development and see how what he builds can solve real problems for manufacturers.

As he puts it, the work is less Iron Man building the suit alone in a cave and more building the suit alone in a cave, but the cave runs on LangGraph. 😂

His perspective on manufacturing AI:
“Everyone’s chasing dashboards. Almost nobody’s building something that can reason over that data and act on it, right at the machine, in the operator’s own language.”

That gap between having data and actually being able to use it in the moment is where we see opportunity.

Outside of work, Shivam plays drums, hits the gym, and is almost always in the middle of a book. His rule of thumb? If it’s loud, heavy, or has a good plot twist, he’s probably into it. 🥁📚 💪
