Join the City of Green on Tuesday, October 6, from 3-6 p.m. for the Public Art Plan Open House!

Review the draft of the Public Art Plan, share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences, and help shape the future of public art in the community. The Open House takes place in Central Park Community Hall, 1795 Steese Rd, and is open to all. Registration is NOT required, and all ages are welcome to attend!

Massive congrats to the City of Akron, OH, Curated Storefront, and the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition! Because of their incredible work, internationally acclaimed artist Chakaia Booker is bringing a new, 17-foot permanent sculpture to Lock 3, created from steel and recycled Goodyear racing tires and inspired by the city's deep roots in the rubber industry.

As Akron's first major contemporary outdoor sculpture designed by a woman, the piece represents an exciting moment for public art in our community, connecting where we've been with where we're headed and showing how creativity can transform the places we share.

We can't wait to see this newest addition to Akron's creative landscape come to life!

A blank wall is now a landmark. 🎨 The new mural by Akron artist Lizzi Aronhalt is officially complete at Metropolis Gourmet Popcorn on Front Street in downtown Cuyahoga Falls!

The project grew from Wall Call, an initiative of ArtsNow and the City of Cuyahoga Falls created to connect available walls in targeted areas of the city with artists and new possibilities for public art. COLLIDE: Cuyahoga Falls received a grant from ArtsNow to bring this mural to life, working with Lizzi, Metropolis Gourmet Popcorn, the City, and other partners throughout the process.

It is exactly what we hope public investment in the arts can do: pay an artist to create ambitious work, help a local business become a destination, and transform an ordinary part of the built environment into something unmistakably of this place.

Go see it at the corner of Front Street and Portage Trail. And yes, absolutely get popcorn while you are there. 🍿
