June 2026 Detective of the Month
DETECTIVE JOSEPH BODNAR
Detective Bodnar received a commendation for his investigative work involving a recent theft of a valuable watch. In early June, he was assigned to investigate the theft of a watch valued at over $5,000. The victim sold the watch only to find out later that the suspect used a fake Zelle account. A lead was received which led Detective Bodnar to interview a female and staff at the University Edge Apartments. The staff provided him with more possible leads to follow-up with and videos to review. The victim later found the watch for sale on eBay. Detective Bodnar was able to recover the watch for the victim and developed more leads from the seller.
Detective Bodnar had very little information to work with. He used various search parameters in OHLEG (Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway), which is a time-consuming process, and identified a suspect. He created a photo array for the victim to review, which is how they positively identified the suspect, and led to their arrest.
His commitment and dedication to the city of Akron, its citizens, and the Akron Police Department’s mission and core values, are not without notice; and for this, he is being recognized for outstanding work.
