AFD is continuing to address the fire at Holub Recycling, 470 N Arlington Street. The source of the fire is trash and other rubbish. Residents should still avoid the area of N Arlington Street between North/Home Avenue and N Forge Street. Dense Smoke is present in some areas to the south of N Arlington towards E Market Street and to the east in the direction of Bank Street and Case Avenue. The shelter in place has been lifted. Residents should consider avoiding excessive outdoor activity for the next twelve hours.

Crews are on scene of a large outdoor fire near Summa hospital. Crews are still on scene please avoid the area near Arlington and Forge.

Today, Akron Fire and Akron Police dusted off the cleats and teamed up to play a friendly game of tag football with Garfield CLC football team. Thank you Akron Police and Garfield CLC. Good luck this upcoming season!

We have an update on our lost kitten!

Firefighter Paramedic Zach Aiken has adopted the kitten found in the sewer. This story has come full circle; Zach was one of the members of the crew that helped rescue the kitten. Zach, thank you for your kindness and giving that kitten a loving home.

Correction from the previous post: There were four young boys in the neighborhood that alerted Station #4 that there was an animal in the sewer. Their quick thinking helped give that kitten a chance at life.

"Thank the 4 kids that had a choice to make.....keep walking and do nothing , or go get help. Those 4 young men are on the right path. Hopping down a sewer was the easy part. Getting help....that was the big part. Nothing matters if they don't do that. Life is a series of small yet consequential choices. Those youngsters passed this test." - Firefighter Bernie Pressman

Thank you to the young men who made a great choice that day! Big shout out to Laura over at Rubber City Rescue who jumped into action with one phone call to help give the kitten the care it needed until it was adopted!

August 4, 2026 the City of Akron will host the 43rd annual National Night Out in every ward across the city.

National Night Out (NNO) is an annual community-building campaign, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch that promotes police-community relations and neighborhood unity.

The goal of National Night Out is to strengthen participation in local programs that prevent and deter crime, in an effort to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. Events, themes, and activities will vary by location, but most will have snacks, refreshments, music, and activities for kids.

This is a FREE event and open for all kids and families to attend! Can’t wait to see you there!
