Mayor Brakefield joined Fire Chief Nathan Smitherman during last Monday's City Council meeting to proclaim Oct. 4-10 as Fire Prevention Week in Alabaster.
Fire Prevention Week is a national initiative focused on educating the public on common household fire dangers. This year's focus is on the growing proliferation of lithium ion batteries in many of the devices we use every day, and how misuse of these devices can lead to fires.

Fire Friday: Peyton Beard
This week's Fire Friday Firefighter is Peyton Beard, assigned to Firehouse 1, C Shift.
Beard self-sponsored his way through recruit school at the Alabama Fire College before joining Alabaster Fire in the summer of 2024. After completing recruit school he immediately began Paramedic school and became a Nationally Registered Paramedic in June of this year! Peyton has worked hard since day one and has a real hunger to keep learning, always looking to grow his knowledge and sharpen his skills. We're proud to have Peyton Beard on our team. Thank you for what you bring to Alabaster Fire.
