The domestic violence dramatized in A Cry for Help: The Tracey Thurman Story was shocking. I was 18 that year, and I remember feeling so upset during the courtroom scene as Tracey walked in. Nancy McKeon was brilliant in the role.
The injuries Tracey Thurman sustained happened when her estranged husband showed up at her friend’s house to talk to her. Some say the vicious attack took place in the backyard.
It was the first time that I saw how love could turn to pure hate. How could someone who had claimed to love her at one time do this to her? I thought.
Tracey Thurman's case brought the issue of domestic violence right into our living rooms. Didn't it?
Her case opened up a national conversation about how these cases should be handled.
Since October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, let's remember her story.

It was a Louisiana abduction case. The movie plot was about a woman’s crazy ex who abducted her in broad daylight. Her family quickly tracked her down in the WOODS and RESCUED her.
It's one of the few cases that had a happy ending. It was so interesting they made a movie about it called In Broad Daylight—a true story that was featured on TV One’s documentary series Fatal Attraction.
When it premiered, I wrote an article about the similarities between the movie and Bethany Arceneaux’s story.

Presley Ge**er son of Cindy Crawford Dead. He was 27. I’m so sorry to hear about it. I know Cindy will be forever heartbroken.
She fell from a horse … later, the truth revealed something more sinister. Shannon Mohr was a Victim of Love.
Try not to be a case. Stay safe. Stay watchful. Stay aware. This was a classic true crime film.
A true crime mystery movie.

He was husband material—the kind most women want—a provider who works hard for his family. For Terry Camper, the payback was murder…CONSPIRED by a woman he thought loved him.
When I saw the trailer for Deadly Dispatch, I thought of a case that was covered on Fatal Attraction. We told you about this in 2019. That year, the movie was promoted as a Love, Lies, & Murder mystery inspired by ACTUAL events.
I’ll let you decide, true crime watchers!

Based on actual events. A woman’s drug-dealing boyfriend drags her down, landing her in prison with a 20-year minimum sentence.
Back in 2011, I wrote that I believed the 2002 movie Guilt by Association was most likely based on Kemba Smith and Amy Pofahl. Their sentences were slightly longer, and their stories were featured on Court TV in the documentary Prisoners of Love (2000), highlighting the nightmares of mandatory minimum sentencing.
If not, their cases were similar to this movie. It’s a good doc if you can find it. The movie was really good, too.
