She’s in her early thirties. She’s already good at disappearing into what other people need. She thinks that’s love. She doesn’t know yet that it’s fear.

I’d tell her: Your hands are going to save you. Not from the hard things — from yourself. From the version of you that keeps shrinking.

I’d tell her: You are not your usefulness to other people. You are not what you hold together. You are a whole person, and you don’t have to earn that.

I’d tell her: Start making something. Anything. It will lead you home. 🤍

August in New Mexico is not for the faint of heart. The heat is serious. The monsoons hit without warning. The sky turns colors I can’t name. But there’s something about the drama of it that matches the way I feel inside a lot of the time. Big. Unpredictable. Capable of the most extraordinary light. This land shaped me. I don’t think I could make the art I make anywhere else. The desert is in it. The river is in it. The sky is in it. New Mexico isn’t where I’m from. It’s who I am.

I smiled so much this weekend my cheeks are sore! What a rush this event was! I can’t thank God enough for all the love that was given to me at the Contemporary Hispanic Market. I met soooo many new people and made some really great connections. What a wonderful, successful two days. Thank you to each and everyone that felt called to visit my booth. You’re my people 🥰.
