At Changing Woman Initiative, we recognize that nourishing young ones can happen in so many different ways, and that language around this essential part of nurturing life is important and changing. In our work and practice, we use the term "human milk feeding" because it is the most inclusive and accurate way to describe the many ways families feed their babies, including breast/chest feeding, pumping, and donor milk. While human milk provides wonderful benefits, it isn't always accessible or possible. We want every caregiver to know that breastmilk substitutes or alternative feeding can also be a supportive way to keep little ones nourished when needed. While we use human milk feeding in our education and work, we also importantly follow your lead. We are here to support you and will use the language that feels right to you and your family.

Committed to community, NMBTF and Changing Woman Initiative shared space yesterday morning for a meaningful lactation training focused on building knowledge, strengthening support, and helping families feel empowered throughout their feeding journeys.
When community organizations learn, collaborate, and grow together, we create stronger networks of support for the families we serve.
Thank you for hosting us! 🤱

September is Su***de Prevention Month.
One of the most helpful tools here in New Mexico is the 988 Crisis Lifeline -- free, confidential, and always open 24/7.
If you or someone you know needs support, please reach out to 988. You can call, text, or chat -- any time.
As we move through this month we honor those we’ve lost, please support those who are struggling, and work together towards healing for all of us.
