It’s Podcast Monday and this week’s installment of •Picture This• delves into the story of a remarkable work of public art in Roswell, New Mexico.
Donald B. Anderson,an artist and oil businessman, commissioned Albuquerque artist Herb Goldman in the early 1960s to create a massive concrete and steel structure on the outskirts of Roswell.
Inspired by the ancient ruins Anderson had experienced in Iran and Afghanistan on a recent family cruise in the Near East, he invited Goldman to reside in his home to work on this private commission with no budget.
Tune in next Monday for the rest of the story.

Beloved Old Town clergy —such as Father Luis Jaramillo and Monsignor James L. McNiff—blessed hundreds of animals, ranging from household dogs and cats to ponies, birds, and occasional unusual pets, each sprinkled with holy water in the 1960s and 1970s at San Felipe de Neri Church.
Annual blessing of the animals rituals are still celebrated on the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, October 4th around the world in churches, temples, and spiritual communities.
Ceremonies are planned this weekend at various houses of worship across Bernalillo County.

Jackie Mitchell Edwards is one of the nine extraordinary artists featured in The Woods Before Sunrise: Environment and Place in New Mexico’s Black Contemporary.
“My art asks the viewer to throw themselves into the unknown and “jump off the diving board and invent the water on the way down”, and spend some time connecting to the landscape of the spirit, to touch that part of their home, their landscape, that is not owned by anyone, can’t be stolen, has no borders, is everywhere and nowhere, and which is accessed through the power and strength of beauty found in color, shape, line and texture.”
Exhibition is on view through October 18, 2026.

Congratulations are in order for Paula Wilson and her team for being awarded the Best Cover in this year’s AIGA’s 50 Books | 50 Covers of 2025 (AIGA Design)!
“Toward the Sky’s Back Door”, published by the Tang Teaching Museum and DelMonico | D.A.P. (Tang Teaching Museum DelMonico Books), is the first major monograph on American artist Paula Wilson (b. 1975).
Living and working in rural New Mexico, Wilson seamlessly integrates painting, sculpture, printmaking, and textiles into her multidisciplinary practice.
Designed in close collaboration with Wilson and curator Rebecca McNamara (Rebecca McNamara), the book rejects rigid structure, instead interweaving plates with essays by Taylor Renee Aldridge (Taylor Renee), Ebony Y. Rhodes (Ebony Y. Rhodes), and Stephanie Sparling Williams (Stephanie Sparling Williams) to mirror the layered, nonlinear nature of Wilson’s work.”
Paula is one of nine artists living and working in New Mexico featured inThe Woods Before Sunrise: Environment and Place in New Mexico’s Black Contemporary, on view through October 18, 2026.
“Towards the Sky’s Back Door’ is available in the Museum gift store. Cheers, Paula!
