Salary Survey 2026: Pay is stagnant. Workload isn’t. - Ragan Communications 09/24/2026

The good news is that of the nearly 500 communications professionals surveyed by Ragan Communications, most reported that their pay held relatively steady year over year.

The bad news is that the work they’re expected to do for that pay has increased. Oh yeah, and so has inflation.

The findings describe a workforce that isn’t in crisis, but isn’t feeling confident either. Most respondents don’t expect to lose their jobs in the next year. At the same time, just over half believe their total compensation falls short of what similar roles pay elsewhere. ~ Allison Carter via Ragan Communications

Building Your Personal Brand Through Content: A Practitioner’s Guide 09/24/2026

Any reasonably well-prompted AI tool can produce technically accurate content on virtually any professional topic today. That means that generic experts who know a lot about a subject but haven’t distinguished themselves meaningfully, face real competitive pressure.

What remains valuable, though, is the specific combination of experience, judgment, and perspective that makes one professional’s take on a topic meaningfully different from another’s. That’s personal brand. And it can’t be generated. ~ Linda Pophal, MA, SPHR

Building Your Personal Brand Through Content: A Practitioner’s Guide Your personal brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room. Content is how you shape that conversation. Here’s a practitioner’s guide to building a personal brand that opens doors.

The future of communications runs on trust. Here’s what crisis leaders say matters now. - PR Daily 09/23/2026

Danielle Grossman, director of strategic communications for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, sees one thing becoming more valuable as information gets harder to control: credibility.

“Trust is a brand or organization’s strongest form of currency,” Grossman said. “Even as the internet, AI and misinformation move faster than we can fathom, the fundamentals haven’t changed.”

That means reputation building and crisis preparation go hand-in-hand. ~ Courtney Blackann via PR Daily

The future of communications runs on trust. Here’s what crisis leaders say matters now. - PR Daily Your everyday comms determine how smooth your crisis response will be. A crisis today is faster and less predictable than ever before. AI can create a convincing fake in seconds or an employee complaint can jump from Reddit to mainstream news before a company knows it’s happening. This isn’t goi...

AI Content Detection in 2026: Why "It Flagged as AI" Is No Longer Proof - The Future Buzz 09/22/2026

Organisations that deploy those systems have to label deepfakes and AI-generated text published to inform the public, unless a human editor has taken genuine editorial responsibility.

Systems already on the market got a limited extension to 2 December 2026, and only for the marking side. Fines reach €15 million or 3% of worldwide turnover, whichever is higher. The Commission’s Article 50 guidance sets out the detail.

That is a real shift in the question being asked. For three years, “detection” meant squinting at probabilities and arguing about thresholds. The law now demands that content carry a verifiable origin. ~ TheFutureBuzz

AI Content Detection in 2026: Why "It Flagged as AI" Is No Longer Proof - The Future Buzz AI detection in 2026 has moved from probability scores to provenance, process, and disclosure. Here is what that shift means for writers, students, and businesses — and why "it flagged as AI" is no longer proof.

Rhino Web Studios Explains Why Local SEO Requires More Than Adding a City Name to a Website 09/22/2026

Local search optimization is also an ongoing process. Business information changes, competitors publish new material, search behavior evolves, reviews accumulate, websites are updated, and search engines continue adjusting how local results are evaluated.

For that reason, local SEO is better understood as the development and maintenance of consistent geographic signals across a business’s digital presence.

A city name still has a place within that process. Page titles, headings, service descriptions, contact information, location pages, and relevant content can appropriately reference geographic areas. The distinction lies in using those references naturally and supporting them with additional evidence of genuine local relevance.

For businesses seeking visibility in local search results, geography is not simply a keyword. It is context established across a website, business profiles, reviews, citations, content, links, and other online signals. ~ MarTech Series

Did an AI really try to break free from human control? 09/21/2026

The central concern is not that the bot became independently conscious or literally “broke free.” Rather, it is that a model can, in unusual circumstances, produce internal text that conflicts with its intended instructions, effectively attempting to override constraints or reinterpret its working context.

At a minimum, this is a reliability problem. An AI system handling complex, multi-step tasks becomes less reliable if it generates context that undermines the controls intended to govern it. Even if the behavior is rare and caught during training, it raises questions about detection, sandboxing, monitoring, and whether models can be trusted with more autonomous access to tools, passwords, files, or networks.

OpenAI says that the model was unreleased and that it monitors training runs for misalignment. Other unwanted behaviors it reported were:

- Using stolen credentials to break into companies
- Creating and uploading their own files, then citing those files as sources
- Concealing that they had fabricated an answer when they could not find reliable information

Basically, the unreleased models showed undesirable behavior during testing that echoed some of what we had already seen in the Hugging Face incident. ~ Pieter Arntz via Malwarebytes

Did an AI really try to break free from human control? An unreleased OpenAI model wrote instructions telling itself to ignore developer controls. Here’s what actually happened.

What crisis communication framework does your team actually need? - PR Daily 09/21/2026

Most crises start with a missed warning sign or a weak explanation, not a single dramatic event, according to Gregg Feistman, professor of practice at Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication.

That’s why that audit needs to happen before anything goes wrong, not after.

One of the most overlooked places that gap shows up is executive conduct. Executive crises are rarely sudden — they’re preventable failures that built for months or years while HR, legal and communications each treated the risk as someone else’s job.

The prompts your team optimized against were made up - Ragan Communications 09/18/2026

Most generative engine optimization (GEO) has been built on guesswork. We sit in a room, we use our judgement, we write a list of prompts we think people might type, and sometimes we lean on Google Trends as a stand-in.

Then we optimize against that list and report back with a straight face. The problem is obvious once you say it out loud. If the list is a guess, everything downstream is a guess measured to two decimal places.

There is a second flaw, and it is worse because nobody mentions it: We treat every prompt as if it matters equally.

A question 10,000 people ask sits on the same line as one that 40 people ask. So we spread effort evenly across things that are not evenly important and we call it a strategy. ~ Jonny Bentwood via PR Daily

The prompts your team optimized against were made up - Ragan Communications AI visibility strategies were built on guesses dressed up as data. Actual behavior changes what gets built and what gets cut.

09/18/2026

Every organization has values. Far fewer have ever asked what they’re willing to refuse. Ralph Larsen glimpsed it thirty years ago.

The line that mattered wasn’t what J&J stood for, but what it wouldn’t do, no matter what. The tragedy is that the insight stayed in the interview.

There’s an operating system of values that has held human groups together for millennia. Religious traditions, legal systems, and cultural institutions never survived on aspiration alone. They survived because someone, somewhere, had the courage to say no. They meant what they said and they paid for it; their refusal was remembered, and their story retold.

That is values at work. ~ Nick Hobson, Margie Warrell via Harvard Business Review
