With a new school year approaching, we wanted to share where one Explora alum is headed next!

Aniel has been part of the Explora community for several years, participating in programs including the Directed Energy Summer Internship and the AFRL STEM Scholars Summer Camp. When he first joined the DE Internship two summers ago, he was the youngest participant at just 16. Over time, he found his footing, his confidence, and his passion for building things.

He describes Explora as "a place where good things happen." And when we asked if he'd come back to inspire the next generation of young makers and thinkers, he didn't hesitate: "Of course, because Explora is my home."

This fall, Aniel heads to the University of New Mexico to study mechanical engineering on an academic scholarship. We're so glad his story is part of ours!

Our Storyteller Series continues! Explora partners with Ms. Marie Booth's MESA class at East Mountain High School, where students interview local STEM professionals about their journeys.

This week: Kathleen Oolman, a Quantum Tech Physicist. She earned her undergraduate degree in math and physics from the University of Wyoming, then went on to complete a Ph.D. in Experimental Physics from the University of Illinois.

Today, her work involves studying extremely small-scale physics, from photons and atoms to semiconductors and light, with a focus on how semiconductors can influence behavior at the quantum level. Outside the lab, she's just as likely to be found rock climbing or running. As she puts it: "I embrace change, understanding passion makes things worthwhile."
