S.A.F.E. House is seeking donations for the silent auction at our 50th Anniversary Sock Hop Celebration on September 26, and we're inviting local businesses to help make this milestone event unforgettable!

We're looking for a wide variety of tax-deductible donations, including gift certificates, gift baskets, logo merchandise, unique experiences, tickets, professional services, dining packages, hotel stays, and more. Whether it's a product, service, or one-of-a-kind experience, every contribution helps support victims of intimate partner domestic violence and their children. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated.

Your donation will not only help us raise critical funds for shelter, counseling, advocacy, and housing programs, but it will also showcase your business to hundreds of community members attending this special event. URGENT SHELTER NEED: Baby Stroller w/ Car Seat Needed

S.A.F.E. House has an immediate need for a baby stroller with an infant car seat for a family currently staying in our emergency shelter. (See photo.)

A new or gently used donation would provide essential support to a parent and child as they rebuild their lives in safety. If you are able to help, donations may be dropped off at Thriftique during our regular donation hours.

SUCCESS STORY ~ From Fear to Freedom: Athena's Journey to Independence

When Athena* arrived at S.A.F.E. House, she was fleeing an abusive marriage and searching for safety. New to New Mexico and overwhelmed by the circumstances that had forced her to leave her husband of six years, she found comfort in knowing that, for the first time in a long time, she was safe.

Determined to reclaim her life, Athena immediately began taking steps to protect herself. One of her first goals was obtaining a Temporary Restraining Order against her abuser. Although the process proved difficult, she remained persistent and was eventually granted a two-year restraining order — a major milestone in her journey toward independence.

As Athena began healing from the physical and emotional trauma she had endured, she often reflected on the courage it took to make that first call to S.A.F.E. House. Looking back, she believes that decision saved her life.

Throughout her stay, Athena fully embraced the resources available to her. She participated in case management, navigated Albuquerque's public transportation system, and worked to rebuild both her health and her confidence. With support, she was able to access healthcare, restart important medications, and focus on the future she wanted to create.

Athena's determination led her to New Mexico Workforce Solutions, where she secured what she proudly described as her dream job. Transportation assistance through Rio Metro Job Access helped her commute to work, while her steady income allowed her to save for the future.

Before leaving shelter, Athena achieved one of her biggest goals: securing her own apartment near her workplace. Just weeks later, she shared even more exciting news — she had saved enough money to purchase her own vehicle, further strengthening her independence.

Athena's story is a powerful reminder that, with courage, determination, and support, victims of intimate partner domestic violence can rebuild their lives and create brighter futures.
