The Allen Police Department wants to help keep our community safe and informed when it comes to electric bikes and electric motorcycles. While they may look similar, they are treated very differently under Texas law.
🚲 E-bikes are designed with pedals and electric assist and can legally use bike lanes and trails when operated within state guidelines.
🏍️ E-motorcycles are considered motor vehicles under Texas law and may require:
• Driver’s license
• Registration
• Insurance
• Proper roadway use
Parents and riders should also know that knowingly allowing an unlicensed or underage person to operate a motor vehicle may result in citations.
