🚨 Get ready Chicago! Here come the Ladies in Red! 🚨
We'll be at ICSC Midwest this Thursday, Oct. 8, and if you're working on restaurant or retail sites anywhere in the Midwest, we'd love to talk shop.
From the first site visit to opening day, we handle it all: site planning, due diligence, architecture, civil, MEP, and permitting. We also work out the landlord-tenant scope and keep developers and brands aligned along the way.
We've been at this since 1972. 13,000+ restaurants, 11,000+ retail projects, and 75,000+ permits later, we know a thing or two about getting sites built.
So if you see us (you will), come say hey. Or skip the hunting and email Aaron Walker at [email protected] to lock in a time.

Before the ribbon cutting, before the first customer, there was a sketch.
Yesterday was World Architecture Day, and we're celebrating the architects behind every project in this carousel. Across our Orlando and Chicago offices, this team balances local codes, ADA requirements, and brand standards that look different for every client. What never changes is the goal: helping our clients open on time, on budget, and ready for customers.
Thank you to the whole team for the lines that become places. ✏️
Human by design.
Presentations that make you check your phone every 30 seconds? We'll pass. 🏓

She once thought her goal only happened in movies.
This Hispanic Heritage Month, we're passing along the advice of Angelia Mendez Silva, a Puerto Rican Program Manager in MEP Engineering at Interplan, straight from someone who lived it.
"I didn't think that I would be able to get to where I am today. That was a super unreachable goal, maybe something that happens in movies. But I made it and I just kept going and I never gave up." Stick to it. Believe in yourself. Stay engaged. Stay willing to learn. A good, positive attitude and just keep going. That's all you need."

QDOBA franchisee Brent Bernard doesn't hesitate when asked about the toughest part of getting a restaurant open.
"The most frustrating part has been the permitting process, that is so different from city to city, county to county."
His takeaway: don't try to figure it out alone.
"You need to hire an expert who knows how to navigate it, or you can get lost in the process. Delayed."
Behind the Build is hosted by Patrick Ringlever, CEO of Interplan.

She almost let the tears win. She didn't.
This Hispanic Heritage Month, we're sharing the full journey of Angelia Mendez Silva, a Puerto Rican Program Manager in MEP Engineering at Interplan. She starts to cry. She stops herself. "No. I don't want to let it fall."
It took her about ten years to finish her degree. She was working. She had her daughter in 2013 and stepped away from school to raise her. When she came back it was work, motherhood, and one of the hardest degrees you can earn, all at the same time. When her daughter was around three years old she and her partner made a decision. They were both servers. They could get by but not enough to give her the education they wanted for her. "We decided it was best for her to come to the United States." The sacrifice had a silver lining.
Orlando had a campus for the same Polytechnic University she had started at in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She could finish the degree she started. "It was just a perfect scenario for that big sacrifice." Ten years. One daughter. Two countries. One degree.

It's International Podcast Day! So we wanted to give a special shout-out to the guests who have joined us on Behind the Build with Patrick Ringlever.
Interviewing these CEOs, founders, and franchisees has given us a front-row seat to what it really takes to grow a franchise brand, retain employees, and adapt to industry changes.
Thank you to Hawkers Asian Street Food, The Bagels & Co ., , Juici Patties , and QDOBA for sharing the honest lessons behind every build with Patrick.

Happy National Coffee Day! ☕
We needed an excuse to spend the morning at a coffee shop, and today handed us one.
Our team stopped by a nearby Foxtail Coffee to grab some footage (and, okay, a few lattes). Walking into one of their spaces always reminds us how much goes into a great café that most people never notice. The layout that keeps the line moving. The lighting that makes you want to stay for a second cup. The equipment, plumbing, and power working quietly behind the counter so every drink comes out right.
That's the stuff we love. For more than 50 years, we have been helping restaurant and retail brands build spaces like this through architecture, engineering, civil, and permitting, all under one roof.
Big thanks to Foxtail for having us. Now go treat yourself to some deals, freebies, and discounts: https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/food/2026/09/28/national-coffee-day-2026-deals-free-coffee/91916982007/.
You've earned it.
Her aunt planted the seed. She turned it into a career.
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, meet Angelia Mendez Silva, a Puerto Rican Program Manager in MEP Engineering at Interplan. It was her aunt who convinced her.
"She's a civil engineer. She kind of convinced me that hey, this is something that you can do. I'm a civil engineer. My sister is an electrical engineer." Angelia looked at the women in her family who had already done it and made a decision.
"She's a woman in a man-led field. If she can do it, I can do it. So I kind of took it as a challenge." From there she started developing a passion for renewable engineering. That's what she was gearing toward. "The rest is history."
