PILC is a Center for Independent Living, one of 27 centers in Texas and 500 across the nation. Centers for Independent Living promote the Independent Living philosophy, which states that people with disabilities have the right to make their own choices for their lives and to live independently in their community, not in an institution. We help people with disabilities achieve their independent living goals through peer support, independent living skills development and education.

The Ford Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation have announced support for Artichoke Credit Union, a new credit union designed with people with disabilities in mind.
Expected to begin accepting members in early 2027, it will offer accessible banking services, financial education, and tools to help support greater financial independence.
