Rebel Animal Rescue

You might remember Scruffy, a dog we pulled from an overcrowded shelter, who then tested positive for heartworm. He has been being treated since May and FINALLY received his last injection in August. We are happy to report that he is being adopted by his foster dad and is doing well in their home!

Unfortunately, dogs can not be neutered until the heartworms have completely cleared their body. To determine if Scruffy (now named Jocho) is officially clear, we are sending a blood sample off this week for a Modified Knott's Test. This will tell us if the microfilaria are still in his bloodstream or not. If they are not, he is officially heartworm free and can finally be neutered!

This morning Alvin picked Stormy up from our kennels and. Drove her to Amarillo Fetch. He said before they turned in she got excited and as soon as he opened the door she drug him to the door! We’re so grateful for Fetch offering our dogs daycare and love knowing they look so forward to going each week!

These two ladies were saved from euthanasia at a small rural shelter here in the Panhandle thanks to our wonderful fosters who were able to open up their homes.

They are such sweet, precious girls and we know they will make AMAZING family members for somebody. Before they are able to attend adoption events, though, they have to be spayed!

Well… this one hurts.

Last week, Rebel received a $4,000 donation check. The check was deposited and cleared our account, and we were incredibly grateful for what we thought was some much-needed breathing room.

We used a portion of those funds to do exactly what donations to Rebel are meant to do; we paid nearly $700 toward our IDEXX bill and another $500 toward our outstanding veterinary balance.

Unfortunately, we have now learned that the check appears to be fraudulent.

We are working with our bank and the issuing bank, who are investigating the situation. We’re thankful it was caught before any more of the money was spent, but the reality is that we paid about $1,200 in bills with money we didn’t actually have.

Those bills were real. The animals they helped were real. The donation, apparently, was not.

So we’re asking our village to help us fill that unexpected $1,200 hole. Whether it’s $5, $10, $20 or simply sharing this post, every bit helps us keep moving forward while this gets sorted out.

Rescue is hard enough without somebody pulling something like this. But here we are...still saving animals, still paying the bills, and apparently adding “detect counterfeit checks” to our ever-growing job description. 🙃
