Bichon Rescue Brigade

One-year-old Dexter found himself at Downey Animal Care Center, where the shelter environment was understandably scary for this tiny 9-pound boy. When he became Rescue Only and was placed on the euthanasia list, he needed a rescue to give him the chance to leave the shelter behind.

Dexter is safe with us now.

Now he’ll get exactly what he needs: time to decompress, recover from his cough, and settle into life outside the shelter. We’ll give him the space and patience he needs while we get to know him.

Back in March, Katy was found wandering in a Palmdale park alongside 15 other dogs. They were all in heartbreaking condition — covered in urine and f***s, with severely overgrown nails.

After some time, Katy found herself in foster with Annie Nuttall her family. Almost immediately, Katy made her way over to Annie’s son and tucked herself right beside him to watch Toy Story. Once Katy decided this was her family, there was no looking back🩷

We’re so grateful to Jennifer for giving Katy her first safe place, to Annie and her family for opening their home, and to her son, for being exactly the friend Katy needed.

Happy ever after, sweet Katy! ✨

When Annabelle first arrived to BRB from the Palmdale shelter, we knew she was something special. She was gentle, loving, and quickly won over everyone she met.

Ashlee saw Annabelle’s post and knew right away that she had already won her heart. So she and her pup Basil hopped in the car and drove all the way to meet her. And just like that, Annabelle was home.

Congratulations to Annabelle and 🩷 We’re so happy you found each other. And huge thank you to Elinor Garcia & Laura Villavicencio for fostering, loving, & transporting this sweet girl!

Earlier this week, we said goodbye to our sweet Nugget. 🤍

Nugget, formerly Twiggy, came to BRB from Carson Shelter last December at 10 years old with significant heart disease.

Thanks to his incredible foster family Oanh Tran, Nugget spent his final months in a home where he was cherished, cared for and got to simply enjoy being part of a family. Earlier this week, his heart could no longer keep going, and we had to say goodbye.

Nugget is why our Fur-Ever Friends and hospice fosters matter so much…sometimes rescue means giving a senior or medically fragile dog a loving home for however much time they have.

Thank you, Oanh Tran, for opening your home and hearts to Nugget and giving him the beautiful final chapter he deserved. And thank you Saving Carson Shelter Dogs for helping make sure Nugget was seen, and Village Animal Hospital -Diamond Bar for his care.

Rest easy, sweet Nugget.

Our longtime foster, nazhabib, knew she had to help when she saw sweet Roger at the Palmdale Shelter. She volunteered to foster, planning to give him a safe place to land while he waited for his forever family.

But something about Roger was special. 🩵

Before long, Naz realized that his forever family had been right in front of him all along, and she officially foster failed!

We couldn’t be happier for Roger and Naz. Here’s to a lifetime of love, cuddles, and happily ever after! 🐶🏡✨

Welcome to BRB, Beamer! This 3-year-old terrier was found injured and brought to Carson Shelter with a dislocated hip. He underwent FHO surgery at the shelter and is now recovering in a foster home in San Fernando.

Unfortunately, his foster was injured and can no longer care for him, so Beamer urgently needs a new Southern California foster. He’ll need crate rest while he recovers, and he also has a cough and needs a vet appointment for evaluation and medication refills.

We’re looking for someone who can give this sweet boy a safe place to recover and help get him to the vet. Please DM us ASAP if you can foster.

Sometimes being in the right place at the right time changes everything. While Melissa Drobis was at North Central Shelter, she happened to notice two little dogs posted on the wall. Their photos weren’t even next to each other, but their matching surrender and birth dates caught her attention. She asked to meet them, and that chance encounter ultimately helped them exit the shelter together.

Now Coco is Ava and Rover is Axl! One of their first stops was the groomer, where their severely matted coats had to be shaved down. They’re already feeling so much better. 🥹

Ava & Axl are currently safe in Pasadena, but they’re looking for a longer-term Southern California foster and/or forever home. Both will also need dentals and spay/neuter, which will be a significant expense for BRB. If you’d like to help with their care, please consider donating at bichonrescuebrigade.org/donate.

At 10 years old, Jack was surrendered to North Central Shelter in a reusable grocery bag. After a decade of being someone’s dog, this little 12 lb, vision-impaired poodle suddenly found himself at the shelter. Today, Jack is safe with BRB and getting the fresh start every senior dog deserves.

This rescue is an especially meaningful one for us. Jack was pulled in honor of our founder Buffy’s beloved dog, Jack.

Thank you to Jaxx for making us aware of him and Seamus and Billie for giving Jack a freedom ride and fostering him. 💙
