Fall in Alaska just hits different 🍂

The yellow trees, crisp air, the mountains in the background...what better way to spend the fall season.

Who's getting outside to enjoy the colors?

Alaska was showing OFF. 🏔️

The views on April Bowl were incredible almost immediately, and somehow just kept getting better the higher they climbed.

By the time Heather and her husband reached the ridge, they were surrounded by mountains, fresh patches of snow and views in every direction.

2.92 miles • 935 ft elevation gain

Not a bad way to spend an afternoon in Alaska. 👀

Have you hiked April Bowl? Comment below.

This is your reminder that Alaska really does not mess around with the views. 😂🏔️

Our TrailMates crew headed out from Government Peak to April Bowl and, as usual, Alaska understood the assignment.

Big mountains. Wide-open views. A little suffering on the uphill because apparently we enjoy that. 😂 And a bunch of people who decided spending the day outside sounded way better than sitting at home.

This is exactly why we do TrailMates.

You show up not knowing everyone, make a few new friends on the trail, stop approximately 47 times because LOOK AT THAT VIEW, and somehow leave already talking about what hike you're doing next.

Alaska is pretty damn cool. It's even better when you have people to explore it with. 🥾🏔️

Come outside. Meet people. Get into some questionable hiking decisions with us.

See you on the next one. 👀

Adding this one to the Alaska adventure list. 👀

Sugar Loaf Ridge is a steep ridge hike in the Denali area, and Heather and her husband got a pretty good taste of it on their very first hike after arriving in Alaska.

They got a later start than planned and made it 1.64 miles with 1,194 feet of elevation gain before turning around.

But first… Alaska in her fall era. 🍂

The coolest part was watching the landscape completely change as they climbed. They started surrounded by fall colors, climbed into rocky alpine terrain and patches of snow, and then the weather changed incredibly fast.

They didn't make it to the top this time, but honestly, they still got a pretty damn good Alaska experience. 😂

Definitely one they're going back to finish.

You don't need a perfect day to go explore Alaska. 🏔️

This was our very first hike after arriving in Alaska! We got a much later start than we had planned because of traveling that day, but decided to see how much of Sugarloaf Ridge we could get done anyway.

Sugarloaf is one of those hikes where the mileage is deceiving because it is STEEP. We made it 1.64 miles with 1,194 feet of elevation gain before ultimately turning around.

The coolest part was watching the landscape completely change as we climbed. We started surrounded by Alaska’s fall colors, climbed into rocky alpine terrain and patches of snow, and then the weather changed incredibly fast. Clouds rolled over the ridge, visibility started disappearing, and it began snowing on us.

Between how late we had started, the rapidly changing weather and the decreasing visibility, we decided it wasn’t safe to keep pushing farther up the ridge and turned around.

We didn’t get to finish Sugarloaf, but what we DID get to hike was absolutely incredible. Honestly, the fog and snow ended up making the experience even more memorable—and gave us some pretty amazing photos. 😂

This is absolutely one we’d go back and finish someday, just with an earlier start and hopefully slightly more cooperative Alaska weather!

If the mountains don’t bring out the kid in you, I honestly don’t know what will. 😂🏔️

Because tell me why I can see the same mountains 400 times and still get giddy excited every single time.

That’s one of my favorite things about living in Alaska. There’s always another trail, another view, another “holy s**t, look at THAT” moment.

And that’s why we created TrailMates!!

Getting outside, finding cool places, and meeting people who also want to say “wait, we HAVE to stop and take a picture of that!"

You don’t need to have a hiking crew. You don’t need to be an expert. Just come hang out and hike with us.

Come outside. Meet people. 🥾🏔️

That’s what TrailMates is here for.

Tag a hiking buddy and rsvp for a hike with us!
