Did you know construction workers account for over a third of all heat-related deaths, despite making up only 7% of the U.S. workforce? It's time we start treating heat like a serious workplace hazard in the construction industry.

Right now, OSHA is taking steps to roll back a 2016 ladder safety rule due to pressure from industry trade groups. The original regulation required employers to replace ladder cages with personal fall arrest systems based on OSHA’s own data showing that traditional cages don't adequately protect workers from severe falls.

Phasing out this requirement puts lives at risk to save on compliance costs.

Outdoor workers are exposed to a great deal of heat stress. Extreme heat can result in occupational illness or injury. Heat stress can result in heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, or heat rashes.
