🚁 Training with the Alaska Army National Guard
AMRG members spent two days this weekend training with the Alaska Army National Guard, practicing insertion and exfil via Black Hawk hoist.
This capability is an important tool for mountain rescue, allowing our teams to access people in difficult or remote terrain more quickly when ground access may be slow or impractical.
A huge thank you to the men and women of the Alaska Army National Guard for the opportunity to train together, and to the amazing pilots and crews whose skill and professionalism make this training possible.
Strong partnerships and continued training help us be better prepared when the call comes.

September brings a big change to Alaska’s backcountry: darkness arrives earlier than many of us expect.
A trip that would have ended in daylight just a few weeks ago can now stretch past sunset. Before heading out, pack a headlamp, even for a daytime trip, and check that it works. Bring spare batteries, extra layers, and give yourself plenty of time to return.
Know when the sun sets. Set a turnaround time. Be prepared if the day doesn’t go exactly as planned.
Stay safe out there.

On Sunday, Girdwood Fire Department called AMRG to assist with an injured mountain biker on the Winner Creek Trail.
AMRG members joined Girdwood Fire personnel on the ground to help package the patient and prepare them for a hoist evacuation by the Alaska Army National Guard. The patient was then flown to Providence Alaska Medical Center for further care.
We are thankful for the opportunity to help a fellow member of the search and rescue community, and we are always willing to support our SAR partners when called.
Thank you to the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center, Alaska State Troopers, Girdwood Fire Department and Alaska Army National Guard for the outstanding coordination and teamwork.
Alaska Army National Guard aviators rescued an injured mountain biker from the Winner Creek Trail near Girdwood Sept. 13.
An HH-60M medevac Black Hawk crew from G Company, 2nd Battalion, 211th General Support Aviation Battalion, used the aircraft’s hoist to bring the patient aboard before transporting them to Providence Alaska Medical Center.
The rescue was a coordinated effort between the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center, Alaska State Troopers, Girdwood Fire Department, Alaska Mountain Rescue Group and the Alaska Army National Guard.
