💚 October is Prevention Month! 💚

Prevention happens when we shape the messages, relationships, and environments that influence everyday choices - helping make healthier choices easier and communities stronger.

Want to be part of that work? The Alliance, Alaska’s statewide prevention coalition supported by Recover Alaska, brings together people from across the state who care about preventing alcohol and substance-related harms and strengthening our communities.

There are lots of ways to plug in:
- 🤝 Connect with The Alliance and get involved in statewide prevention efforts. Subscribe to the newsletter:
https://alaska-alliance.org/newsletter/

- 📱 Follow The Alliance’s page for resources, opportunities, and updates
https://www.facebook.com/alliancealaska

- 🎥 Check out The Alliance on YouTube for conversations, trainings, and prevention-focused content
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpjRXFRoLWXgKQEK3XpuGyA

- 🧡 Share what you learn and invite others into the work!
Prevention belongs to all of us - and when we work together, small actions can create big change across Alaska. SAMHSA has created a great toolkit to help us all get involved!

🧡 Alaska’s voice is part of the national conversation on alcohol policy!

Recover Alaska CEO, Tiffany Hall, and The Alliance Coordinator, Tesia Bobrycki, are in the Washington, D.C. area this week for the U.S. Alcohol Policy Alliance’s Alcohol Policy 2026 Conference, connecting with prevention leaders, researchers, and advocates from across the country.

We’re especially proud that Tiffany serves as Board Chair of the U.S. Alcohol Policy Alliance (USAPA) - bringing her experience from Alaska into national conversations about evidence-based approaches to reducing alcohol-related harm.

Policy might not sound flashy - but it’s one of the most powerful tools we have for prevention. The rules, systems, and environments around us can make a real difference in reducing alcohol-related harm and helping healthier choices become easier choices.

That’s where The Alliance comes in. Across Alaska, members are learning, sharing, and taking action together through shared initiatives, trainings, technical assistance, and policy work - turning good ideas into real change for communities across the state. 🧡

💡 Want to get involved with The Alliance or learn more about alcohol policy and prevention in Alaska? Connect with Tesia at [email protected].

To mark the final day of Recovery Month, we’re honored to share Hollis’s story. 💜

After years of alcohol-related consequences, Hollis reached a point where he had to make a choice: alcohol or his family. He chose his family - and began building a different life.

Today, more than four years alcohol-free, Hollis is sharing his story as a reminder that no matter how deep the hole may feel, change is possible. 💜

Read Hollis’s full story at Recover Alaska: https://recoveralaska.org/holliss-story/

And while you’re there, consider sharing your own. https://recoveralaska.org/stories/written-stories/

Your story might be exactly what someone else needs to hear. 💜
