Our approach to anti-trafficking is two-generational, trauma-informed, survivor centered and led.
A community of survivors in Central Indiana supporting each other in recovery from violence and exploitation, including human trafficking and s*xual exploitation. A survivor doesn't owe you the details. They don't owe you the perfect reaction, forgiveness, silence, or an explanation. What they deserve is to be believed, supported, and respected. If someone trusts you with their story, listen without judgment. Let them decide what happens next. And remind them: what happened was not their fault. Supporting survivors starts with believing them. 💙

This week, remember:
What happened to you may be part of your story,
but it does not get to write your future.
Your support makes healing possible.
At Grace Horizon, we provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered care for individuals impacted by exploitation, violence, and trauma.
As a growing nonprofit, we know this work takes more than compassion; it takes resources, commitment, and a community that believes every person deserves to be free, valued, and safe.
Your generosity helps us continue showing up, building trust, and providing the support survivors deserve. Together, we can keep creating pathways toward healing and hope.

At Grace Horizon, dignity means seeing every person as valuable and worthy of respect.
It means listening, honoring each person’s story, and creating a space where people feel safe, supported, and heard. No one should be defined by what they have experienced. Every person deserves compassion, choice, and the opportunity to move forward.
Dignity is at the heart of how we show up; for survivors, for our community, and for one another.

We’re grateful to work with Heart of Indiana United Way and for the investment they’ve made in our team.
Through this partnership, members of the Grace Horizon staff have been trained as Thrive Coaches, giving us additional tools to bring into our work with the individuals and families we serve.
This is what strong community partnerships look like—sharing knowledge, building capacity, and finding better ways to support the people who count on us.
We’re proud to be part of that work.

Social Work Saturday Quote of the Day:
“You are allowed to outgrow the version of yourself that was created just to survive.”
Sometimes the behaviors, beliefs, and defenses that helped us survive difficult seasons are not the same things we need to thrive. Growth can mean learning that you no longer have to live in survival mode. Give yourself permission to change, set healthier boundaries, trust your voice, and discover who you are beyond trauma. I can honor who I had to be while becoming who I am meant to be. Happy Saturday everyone 🫶

For one participant, the impact of childhood s*xual abuse and multiple assaults shaped how she moved through the world. Anxiety, fear, and constant hypervigilance made it hard for her to feel safe or connected — she often felt like she was always on edge.
At Grace Horizon, trauma‑informed care means meeting participants with compassion, respect, and an understanding of how trauma affects the mind, body, relationships, and sense of self.
Through consistent trauma therapy, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, she began processing her experiences, challenging shame, building coping skills, and finding ways to stay grounded when triggers surfaced.
Over time, she identified trusted supports, strengthened her sense of safety, and began reconnecting with her voice and identity.
Today, she feels more confident managing anxiety and proud of the progress she’s made.
Her story reminds us that healing isn’t about erasing the past — it’s about reclaiming your voice, your choices, and your future. At Grace Horizon, we believe every survivor deserves care that honors their story and their strength.

Instead of focusing on “why they acted that way,” we look at what they’ve lived through and how those experiences shaped their survival responses. This shift helps us understand behaviors like shutting down, people‑pleasing, or hyper‑vigilance as adaptations — not flaws.
At Grace Horizon, trauma‑informed care is our foundation. We teach communities how to recognize trauma responses, reduce harm, and support survivors in ways that build safety, stability, and trust.
