Thank you to everyone who came out for our Volunteer Event yesterday!

We started off with some training sessions in the afternoon, introducing our recruits to the Fanthorp story and volunteering basics. Then we capped off the night with our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner where we discussed upcoming projects and events.

The night concluded with an awards ceremony for our volunteers with the most hours worked in the past year. Kyle Jones was made an official Fanthorp Innkeeper with a total of 191 hours at the inn with 140 being earned in just the last year! Kyle along with fellow Innkeepers Debby and Rusty McLaughlin were also made the first recipients of the Fanthorp Century Club award all three earned over 100 hours at the inn in a single year!

Thank you so much to all of our volunteers for their hard work and dedication! We truly appreciate it!

Happy National Wife Day!

September 20 is National Wife Day. Had this celebration been around in Henry's day he would have had triple the fun! Fanthorp had three wives and for a time he may have had them simultaneously in three different countries. Henry was first married to Susana Wingate on September 1, 1814 at St. Mary's church in Kirkby-on-Bain, England. Henry married again on February 14, 1827 to Eliza Black in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Henry married for the third (and final) time to Rachel Kennard on February 16, 1834 in Austin's Colony in Mexican Texas.

There are no records of a divorce from his first two wives, although it is believed that Eliza likely passed away before Henry came to Texas. In any case, we are sure that Henry would have plenty to celebrate on this day.

Beg Your Pardon, Mr. President

On this day in 1865 Henry Fanthorp was granted a full pardon for any offenses he may have committed during the recent rebellion by the President of the United States, Andrew Johnson.

This was the result of Fanthorp taking a Loyalty Oath to the Union and making formal application for a pardon which he did at Camp Millican on July 11, 1865.

We will once again commemorate the end of the Civil War for the Fanthorps during our "Amnesty for All Offenses" program next June. Keep a look out on our social media for more details.
