The Anderson Fire Department, with help from the Indiana National Guard, conducted about 25 water rescues Thursday and Friday, according to Chief Dave Cravens. East Madison and South Madison fire territories also assisted with some of the rescues.
Anderson firefighters have conducted about two dozen boat rescues during flood Usually, the fire department uses water to fight fires. But, in Anderson, during the recent flood, firefighters have been fighting against water.

City officials believe at least 75% of residents complied and left their homes before the river, swollen with flood waters, crested Friday morning. That would mean about 480 households safely evacuated.
7:15 p.m. update: About 500 Anderson homes were evacuated from White River flood risk areas after mandatory order Anderson police officers and other city personnel knocked on about 640 doors in the mandatory evacuation areas around White River on Thursday.

Some of the flooding was sparked directly by heavy rainfall that dumped as much as 11 inches on the town from Tuesday night through Thursday.
