12:2 YTH Personal Devotion
Day 1
Engage:
Read Luke 14:1, 7–15.
Consider:
Everyone loves a story, and Jesus used them to grab people’s attention. In this passage, Jesus shared a parable with dinner guests in the home of a Pharisee leader. Jesus told several parables during His time on earth to illustrate spiritual truths in an unforgettable way. Today, the Holy Spirit can use Jesus’ stories to work on our heart to point us to the truth. The more hunger we have for God, the more the Holy Spirit can work in and through our life.
QUESTION:
What was the message Jesus wanted each guest to live out in their life?
QUESTION:
Why do you think Jesus wants us to put others first?
Reflect
As you reflect on this story, ask the Holy Spirit to work in your heart and help you understand what He is speaking to you. Jesus wants us to live in such a way that we continually look for ways to put others first. He sees our heart and loves when we follow His truths. Although putting others first is living a different life from many around us, it’s the best way to live if we want to point people to Jesus.
QUESTION:
What do you think your response would have been if you had been there to hear Jesus’ parable?
QUESTION:
Would you have shared your response with the group like the guest in verse 15? Why or why not?
Activate:
This week, without telling anyone, do something for a member of your family that puts them first. It may be things like letting them choose which show to watch, being first in the bathroom in the morning, or choosing their favorite piece of chicken at dinner. You get the idea.
Pray:
Dear Jesus, help me to live out the idea of putting others first. Show me the areas in my life where I need to work more at this. I ask that people in my youth group and church would grow in this as well. Amen.

Hey, R.I.S.E. Kids Parents! As you’re on the road today, let’s start a conversation. There are lots of ways we can practice putting others before ourselves.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
• Help Mom and Dad without being asked. Do things like setting the table, sweeping the garage, or cleaning up your bedroom.
• Invite new people to sit with you at church and school.
• Let someone take your place waiting in line.
• Let someone else take the last cookie or dessert.
• Do a sibling’s chore for them.
• Let a sibling or friend sit in the front seat of the vehicle.
When we put others before ourselves, we are showing them God’s love without saying a word. Read about this truth in Luke 14:1, 7–15.
We want to be a part of your family discussion! Share your thoughts, conversations, and practical ways to put others first in the comments below.

🔥 WHO DO YOU SERVE? 🔥
Sometimes we treat following Jesus like it’s about rules.
“What can I get away with?”
“How close can I get to the line?”
But that’s the wrong question. 🙅♂️🙅♀️
When you truly love Jesus, it’s not about seeing how much you can still mess up… it’s about asking:
👉 Does this honor Christ?
👉 Does this choice show who I belong to?
👉 Who am I really living for?
You weren’t made to blend in.
You weren’t called to serve the crowd.
You were created to live set apart and shine. ✨
This week, before you post, text, talk, or act — pause and ask:
Who do I serve?
Let’s choose to serve Jesus boldly. 💙
Last week’s sermon reminded us of a powerful truth:
Following Jesus isn’t about asking what can I get away with —
it’s about answering who do I serve?
Join us this Sunday at 10:00 AM as we continue worshiping, growing, and letting God shape our lives together.
You’re invited — come as you are.
