First repair on Grandpa’s old C600: Brakes. 🔧

When we brought the truck home, the driveshaft brake worked, but the foot brakes were completely inoperative — so before we worry about making it pretty, we’re making it safe.

We found several issues along the way, including a broken rear brake line, leaks, and problems with the vacuum system for the old Midland Hy-Power brake booster. After replacing some lines, repairing the vacuum system, replacing the check valve, and bleeding what seemed like a lifetime’s worth of air out of the system…

We have brakes!

Three of the four wheels are braking well. The driver-side front still isn’t cooperating and will need some more attention, so we’re not calling the brake system finished just yet. But considering we started with a pedal that did absolutely nothing, this is a pretty big win.

There’s still a long list ahead of us — clutch work, the wood in the bed, gauges, lights, and plenty of other nearly 60-year-old-truck problems — but this feels like the first real step toward putting this truck back to work on the farm.

One repair at a time. 🚜

Follow along as we bring Grandpa’s C600 back to life.

We brought home a pretty special piece of Waymire Farms history this weekend. ❤️

We’ll share the full story later today. Stay tuned — this one means a lot to us!

Just because we live on a farm doesn’t mean we get to skip the yard work. 😂

This sidewalk had gotten WAY out of hand, so it was time to find the edge again. There’s something ridiculously satisfying about watching years of overgrowth disappear one pass at a time.

Sometimes the little projects make the biggest difference around the farm.

Garden teardown is officially underway! 🌱➡️🚜

These T-posts spent the summer holding up trellis wire and cattle panels, but now it’s time to clear everything out for the year.

Turns out a stump bucket + log chain makes a pretty great T-post puller. 😎 Hook it, lift it, move on to the next one. Work smarter, not harder!

One more garden chore made a whole lot easier with the 1025R.

Now that the water is gone and the dust has settled, we finally have a pretty good idea of what survived the “1,000-year flood” in the Waymire Farms garden.

Unfortunately, the answer is: not much.

A few green bean plants made it. Four pepper plants survived out of more than 25. Some of the flowers pulled through, and somehow about half of one pumpkin plant is still hanging on.

Everything else was essentially a total loss.

All of our tomatoes are gone. More than 600 onions are gone. We lost all of our carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, celery and herbs.

For a little while, we thought all the squash varieties might actually make it. The plants survived the initial flooding and looked surprisingly good afterward, but the prolonged wet conditions and incredible amount of moisture eventually caught up with them. Powdery mildew took over, and we ultimately had to call those a loss too.

It’s hard to describe how devastating it is to watch months of work disappear in a matter of days—especially when so much of it was finally reaching the point where we could start harvesting.

But that’s farming.

Sometimes you do everything right and Mother Nature still gets the last word.

The garden definitely won’t look the way we imagined it would at the end of this season, but we learned a lot from our first year growing here—and after seeing exactly how water moves across this property during an event like this, we already have plenty of ideas for how we can make next year’s garden more resilient.

For now, we’ll take care of the handful of survivors and start planning for 2027.

And those four pepper plants better produce like their lives depend on it. 😂🌶️

There are a lot of things I love about flail mowers.

This is NOT one of them. 😂

200 knives later, you start wondering why you don’t just mow with the bush hog instead.

Can a John Deere 1025R Lift a 260B Backhoe? 🤔

The John Deere 260B backhoe weighs somewhere around 650 lbs — but can the 1025R pick one up with the pallet forks?

I needed to get mine moved into storage, so there was only one way to find out. 😎

Turns out these little tractors are pretty capable machines.

Remember that fence row we cleared last month? Well, now it’s time for phase two — pulling the old woven wire and posts and digging out all the stumps left behind.

This section will probably stay yard for the foreseeable future, but I’m looking forward to having it opened back up and usable again. One thing that definitely isn’t going anywhere is the big mulberry tree in the corner by the garden. It’s a beautiful shade tree, and it has a little history for me too — my childhood cat is buried underneath it.

As for everything else… the 1025R and 260B backhoe are making pretty quick work of these stumps. It’s hard to believe how much digging that little backhoe can do.

Slowly but surely, we’re reclaiming this old farm one fence row at a time. 🚜🌳
