🍂 Fall is here, Central Iowa! Before the first real cold snap, run through this quick list:
✅ Replace your furnace filter
✅ Clean out gutters and make sure downspouts drain away from the foundation
✅ Disconnect garden hoses and shut off exterior spigots
✅ Test smoke and CO detectors
✅ Check weatherstripping around doors and windows

Everyone worries about the basement, but don't forget the roof! If you can safely pop your head in the attic, check for wet insulation or dark stains on the wood. And keep an eye out for any new spots showing up on your ceilings.

Been raining for days? Grab a flashlight and take a lap around the basement. Damp spots, puddles along the walls, or that musty smell all mean water's sneaking in somewhere. Catch it early and it's no big deal. Ignore it and, well... 😬

Real talk: if your downspout dumps water right next to your foundation, it's basically aiming it at your basement. Clean out those gutters and toss an extension on the end so water lands a few feet away. If you have fold up extensions like the one pictured then do a quick walk around to make sure they are down. Cheap fix, big difference.

This is one of the defects that I find often…it goes in my report every single time. This specific one is different though. THIS one is from a friends house and I know somebody will recognize it. 😈
