Happy National Tiger Day🐯

Some animals ask for attention. Others quietly hold it.

Tigers have a presence that's difficult to describe until you're standing just a few feet away. Every glance, every step, every subtle movement reminds you why they continue to inspire photographers around the world.

This image was created at Out of Africa Wildlife Park & Sanctuary, where I had the privilege of observing and photographing these remarkable animals.

🐧Last Light

Sometimes the photograph isn't about the subject—it's about the light.

When I first spotted this Galápagos Penguin, it was simply standing on the rocks. I waited as the sun dropped lower, hoping for just the right glow. A few minutes later, warm golden light wrapped around the penguin, creating the silhouette and rim light I had envisioned.

Backlighting creates beautiful atmosphere, but it also leaves the face in deep shadow. During editing, I gently brightened the face just enough to reveal the detail that was already there while preserving the feeling of the evening light.

I also chose a tighter crop than my original composition. By removing some of the surrounding environment, the focus stays exactly where I wanted it—on the penguin, the light, and the quiet moment.

Photography isn't about changing what happened. It's about helping the final image reflect what it felt like to be there.

• Waited for the sun to drop lower to create the rim light.
• Cropped tighter to simplify the composition.
• Brightened the face slightly in post-processing to balance the strong backlighting and reveal natural detail.

Meet the magnificent Frigatebird. During breeding season, the males inflate their bright red throat pouch like a giant balloon to impress the ladies. The bigger and brighter the display, the better their chances. It's basically the bird version of saying, "Look at me!"

They're incredible fliers too. Frigatebirds can stay in the air for days, riding the ocean winds with barely a flap of their wings.

Watching dozens of them displaying at once was one of those "you have to see it to believe it" moments. Nature certainly has a sense of humor. 😂
