It has officially reached the burning stage of Arizona weather and has become way to hot (for me) to do outdoor markets. I’m looking at indoor options but I have started working full time again and the only weekend day I have off is Sunday. Soooo I dunno. Maybe it is time to move online.

There is one major issue with moving online… getting decent product pictures. I have recently discovered that my scanned images are not because I’m doing something wrong. Its because my software/scanner suck.

Here is a perfect example. The first image is a scan of this shadowbox. The second, a photo from my camera.

Now I do love the bokeh affect from the scan but as you can see the colors are nowhere near accurate. So I should just use my camera right? It creates great images. Yeah, no. I suck at taking photo’s. This image took at least half a dozen attempts before I got close to something I like. And even still you can see its not exactly square (although the shadowbox is). ☹

A multi media piece on a 5x7 canvas. Although not obvious in the flat photo the butterfly and flowers are made from layered cardstock. The butterfly wings are made from reflective cardstock.

To Etsy or not to Etsy

Summer is approaching. I live in Arizona. Summer this year is going to be brutal! I went to a night market this weekend, setup was at 3pm and the temperature during setup was 103F! (39C). And its only just the beginning of Spring. What I learned was that I will not be doing any summer markets. 😅

So do I spend 7 or 8 months creating stock for next season. Or do I open an online store (Etsy?) to sell over the summer period? And if, for some miraculous reason, it does well do I stay online only?

I have no doubt these are questions that every small handmade business faces at some time. And now is my time.

But somehow I don't think you are here for my existential conundrum (correct me if I'm wrong please!) so time to pull out the pretties for you 😁

Its almost Easter, so I did Easter things. As well as the cards I made the cutest napkin holders and little Easter baskets. You cant see it in the photo but it has 4 little chocolate eggs inside.

Attached today, we have my latest painting (a mixed media piece) a new card and pictures from my last market 😁 Its hard to see in the painting but the colored pieces are gold metallic paint.

On the day of the market, I posted a video to show how windy it was and how much movement it caused on my painting grid wall. I had over 25lbs per leg on my tent but you can see from the picture I still felt the need to "tie" down the tent. lol

The picture of the hook is to show what the paintings were hanging on to the grid wall by. No wires or anything on the painting, just hanging on the hook. To this day I am still amazed that nothing fell.

I honestly didn’t expect it to hold.

At almost every market I've gone to this year someone has asked me if I have sympathy cards and I've had to say no. I then make a mental note to make said cards once I got home. And of course, I forgot, every. single. time.

Finally I actually remembered and made some cards. Now I don't have to say no any more.

They aren't the best pictures. I had already packaged them for sale before scanning so the plastic has distorted the image a little.
