❄️ From Florida hurricanes to North Carolina ice storms ❄️

Five months into my role as Executive Director at Harmony Animal Rescue Clinic, and Zeke, Athena, and I have officially experienced our first real winter storm, complete with ice, layers upon layers, and prepping the house in case of power outages.

In Florida, hurricane prep was second nature. I lived in a concrete home for 20 years, and while storms were serious, they were familiar. This is different. New, beautiful, a little intimidating, and absolutely humbling. I find myself both enthralled and cautious, learning as I go.

My heart is especially with the feral cats in our community tonight. After growing deeply attached to our Trap-Neuter-Return program over these past months, I cannot help but hope every community cat, along with all outdoor animals and wildlife, has found warmth and shelter through this cold snap.

Today’s task is staying closely connected with our Medical Director, Dr. Julia, as we assess road conditions and determine whether the clinic will be able to open tomorrow. It is a little too early to tell, so for now we wait, watch, and plan responsibly.

Until then, we are hunkered down, layered up, and my animals are thoroughly enjoying the undivided attention. Honestly, they think winter storms are a lifestyle upgrade. 🐶🐱🤍
