Before your crew operates a scissor or boom lift, reviewing the equipment’s documentation is a critical step in any pre-use inspection. 🏗️📋
Before starting the engine, double-check that:
✅ The correct operator’s manual is securely stored directly on the lift
✅ The pre-use inspection checklist is fully completed
✅ Up-to-date maintenance and inspection logs are on file
✅ Any specialized manufacturer supplements are on board
✅ Official manufacturer approval is secured if workers need to exit the platform at height
Requirements vary depending on the machine and job site conditions, so always cross-reference the manufacturer’s guidelines with your company’s safety protocols.
Need to get your operators certified or refreshed? Fox Valley Safety delivers comprehensive MEWP training covering pre-start inspections, safe operation, fall protection, and site-specific hazard controls!

Whether your team uses scissor lifts or boom lifts, proper training is essential. 🦺
Pictured is one of our Fox Valley Safety trainers operating a boom lift.
Employees need to be trained before operating a MEWP, with refresher training required after an incident, unsafe operation, workplace changes, or when using a different type of lift.
Our training covers pre-use inspections, safe operation, fall protection, hands-on practice, and more. We tailor each class to the equipment, tasks, and hazards your employees actually deal with.

When was the last time your team completed Powered Industrial Truck training?
This forklift was found with the engine-compartment cover open, and daily inspections were not being completed. Inspections help catch safety concerns before the equipment is operated. If an issue is found, the forklift must be removed from service until it is safe to use.
PIT operators must complete training and an evaluation before operating the equipment. Operator performance must then be evaluated at least once every three years. Refresher training is required following unsafe operation, an accident or near miss, an unsatisfactory evaluation, or changes to the equipment or workplace.
Fox Valley Safety provides PIT training that includes daily inspections, safe operation, workplace hazards, hands-on practice, operator evaluations and more.
