Know the signs. Tingling, numbness or a burning sensation running down one leg are among the most common signs of sciatica, and they are often triggered or worsened by prolonged sitting, bending or lifting. Some people notice it comes and goes with activity, while others feel it constantly. Either way, it is worth paying attention to rather than waiting it out. The earlier it is properly assessed, the more options are usually available and the sooner things tend to improve.

Myth: sciatica means surgery is the only real fix. It is a common assumption, especially when the pain is sharp or has been around for a while. The truth is that most sciatica responds well to a targeted plan of movement, mobility work and strengthening, without medications or surgery. The nerve pain often eases once the surrounding muscles and joints are working the way they should. Surgery is sometimes appropriate, but it is far from the first or only option for most people.

Sitting through dinner should not be painful. Neither should a car ride, a movie, or a long meeting. If a numb, tingling or burning leg has quietly become part of daily life, it is easy to just work around it, shifting positions, standing up more, avoiding certain chairs. But that discomfort is worth paying attention to rather than managing around indefinitely.

A proper assessment can identify exactly what is going on in the lower back and nerve pathway, and what steps actually help. Book a free Discovery Visit at https://www.motusrx.com/free-discovery-visit/

Your low back might be compensating for weak glutes and core πŸ‘€

Lower Crossed Syndrome is a common pattern we see in lifters and deadlifters β€” tight hips, underactive core, overworked low back.

The fix isn't rest. It's smarter movement. πŸ’ͺ

That shooting pain down your leg has a real cause, and a real explanation. Sciatica happens when a nerve in the lower back gets irritated or compressed, often by tight muscles, a stiff joint or extra pressure from hours of sitting. It can show up as tingling, numbness or a sharp, burning sensation anywhere from the lower back to the foot. The good news is that it is treatable.

With the right assessment, most people find out exactly what is driving it and what actually helps it settle down for good. Book a free Discovery Visit at https://www.motusrx.com/free-discovery-visit/

Would I tell my mother to get a cortisone injection???
πŸ€”

Last week's low back workshop covered a question we hear often: "Should I get a cortisone injection for my back or nerve discomfort?"

Here's a quick recap πŸ‘‡

βœ… Cortisone injections can provide short-term relief for some people ⚠️ Research shows repeated injections may affect surrounding tendons, ligaments, and cartilage over time πŸ“‰ Effectiveness tends to decrease the more they're used

The truth? Rehab, injections, surgery, and medications can all play a role β€” but the right choice depends on what's actually driving your symptoms (a pinched nerve, disc bulge, or something else entirely).

Not sure which path fits your situation? Comment "different" below and our team will reach out about our Free Back Pain Differential Diagnosis session to help you understand your options.Β

This...

One of my favorite weekends (okay maybe 4 days) of the year...Brother's Weekend!

In 3 days we played 111 holes of golf and had fantastic camaraderie as we always do.

It really is something special to continue on as we age.

But a bum elbow, tennis elbow on my lead arm, made me question whether id make it thru the weekend being able to golf, and worse, miss the competition and banter with my brothers.

Thankfully, after 3 sessions of Shockwave Therapy with Curamedix, now available at Motus, I was able to not only play, but play well enough to win the weekend!

Bragging rights for another year!!!

And my elbow pain hasn't come back with golf or with starting back up my workouts.

If you have any nasty "itises" like tennis, golfers elbow, achilles, jumpers knee, or plantar fasciitis, this can be a game changer!
