What’s one thing every car should have?

MEIERS MOTORS MONDAY - MECHANIC OBSERVATIONS

Something we've noticed:

Cars have a pretty impressive sense of timing.

They can go months without making a peep...

Then the day before you're leaving for vacation, heading out of town, or have somewhere important to be:

"Hey! Remember that weird noise?"

Suddenly, that little noise has everyone's attention.

Cars have impeccable timing.

SUNDAY FUNDAY -

Here's your Sunday reminder:

You don't have to have a big plan to have a good weekend.

Sometimes the best weekends are the simple ones.

A little time with family, dinner with friends, watching the kids do their thing, a walk outside, a good football game, or maybe just staying home and doing absolutely nothing.

So here's our question for today:

What's one simple thing that always makes your weekend better?

For us, it's the people.

And when Monday rolls around, we'll be back at the shop taking care of the other important thing in your life… your vehicle.

If you've been putting off maintenance or a repair, we've still got some appointment openings this week.

Enjoy your Sunday — we'll see you Monday!

SHOP TALK SATURDAY -

Yesterday we talked about recognizing the signs that your brakes may be trying to tell you something.

Today, we're showing you what that actually looked like in the shop this week.

This Buick Enclave came in for brake work, and Lucas got to work.

As you can see from the pictures, these brakes had definitely seen better days.

-Worn brake pads
-Warped rotors

And this is why we don't just throw parts at a vehicle and call it good.

Lucas inspected everything, got the old parts apart, replaced what was needed, and put everything back together so this Enclave could get back on the road.

From the first look to the finished job, here's a little behind-the-scenes look at a brake job at Meiers Motors.

Because sometimes the best way to understand what we do…

Is to just show you.

That's what Shop Talk Saturday is all about.

FUN FACT FRIDAY - REPAIR EDITION

Your brakes don't have to be making noise to need attention.

Brake problems can show up in ways other than the dreaded squeak.

Things like:

-A brake pedal that feels different
-Your vehicle pulling when you stop
-Vibration when braking
-Uneven brake pad wear

Sometimes your brakes are giving you clues before they start screaming for attention.

That's why we inspect what we can actually see and feel - instead of waiting for something to make a horrible noise.

Have you ever had a brake problem that surprised you?

TRUE STORY THURSDAY -

You Can't Make This Stuff Up.

This one involves a 1991 Chevy G30 cutaway motorhome and a problem that had apparently been going on for a few years.

The customer was experiencing crazy vibration and shaking while driving, along with the motorhome pulling to the right when braking.

They had been driving it like this for years, but eventually decided it was time to have us figure out what was going on.

By that point, they didn't feel safe driving it anymore, so our good friends at A&W Towing picked it up from their home and brought it to us.

Once we got it in the shop, we found:

-One front tire had a shifted and bulging belt.
-Both front tires were more than 9 years old.
-One front brake caliper was faulty, causing the pull to the right while braking.

We replaced the two front tires and the faulty caliper.

The customer was actually a little shocked. They were expecting the problems to be much worse after dealing with them for so long.

But after the repairs, they couldn't believe how smooth the motorhome drove.

And then came the part that makes this a true “You Can't Make This Stuff Up” story.

Those two old tires went into our junk tire pile.

Apparently, somebody decided they needed those tires more than we did, because someone went through our junk tire pile overnight and took those exact two tires.

Yep. The junk tires!

So somewhere out there, someone is going to be mighty disappointed when they realize what they got:

Two 9+ year-old tires, including one with a shifted and bulging belt.

We don't know what they thought they were taking...

…but we're pretty sure they didn't hit the jackpot.

You really can't make this stuff up.

Be honest…

What’s one thing your vehicle does that drives you CRAZY?

MEIERS MOTORS MONDAY -

Here's something we'd really like every car owner to know:

That noise your car is making isn't going to fix itself.

We know you've been hoping it would.

You've turned the radio up.

You've pretended you didn't hear it.

You've told yourself, "I'll deal with that later."

Meanwhile, your car is over there like:

HELLO?!? I'M TRYING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING!

If your vehicle has started making a new noise, shaking, pulling, squeaking, grinding, or doing something it didn't used to do, it's probably worth having someone take a look before that little problem turns into a much bigger one.

What's the car noise you've been ignoring?

Asking for a friend...
