This week's invitation...
Instead of making another to-do list, make a not-to-do list.
What doesn't deserve your time or energy this week?
Maybe it's saying yes when you really want to say no. Checking work after a certain time. Trying to make everything perfect. Or filling every empty spot on your calendar.
Sometimes deciding what you're not going to do creates exactly the breathing room you need.
What would you put on your not-to-do list this week?
Take a deep breath, reset, and step into the new week one day at a time.

đ So Many ProductsâŚWhich One Do You Actually Need?
Walking into a salon and seeing shelves full of professional haircare products can be a little overwhelming.
Shampoo for moisture. Shampoo for volume. Leave-ins. Oils. Texture sprays. Heat protectants. Styling products...
But here's the thing: you don't need all of them.
I carry different product options because everyone's hairâand everyone's routineâis different.
Your hair texture, density, color, scalp, styling habits and even how much effort you're realistically willing to put into your hair all matter when choosing products.
Maybe you need a complete routine.
Maybe you need ONE product that solves the thing that's driving you crazy.
And if you already have something that works? I'm not going to tell you to change it just because there's something new on my shelf.
My job as your hairstylist isn't to sell you the most products. It's to help you understand what your hair needs, what a product actually does, and whether it's worth adding to your routine.
So ask questions! That's exactly what I'm here for. đ
What's the hair product you have the hardest time choosingâshampoo & conditioner, styling products, heat protection, or something else?

Fresh Color + A Little Brightness â¨
Sometimes you don't need a completely new lookâyou just need to refresh what you already love.
For this salon guest, we did a base color retouch, highlights, toner, and a haircut to refresh her color, add brightness and dimension, and clean up those ends.
I love how the highlights add dimension throughout her long hair while the toner brings everything together for a soft, blended finish.
Hair color isn't always about a dramatic transformation. Sometimes it's simply about maintaining your color, adding a little brightness, and keeping your hair looking and feeling its best.
Are you a âkeep what I love and refresh itâ personâor do you like changing things up?

Hair Tip Tuesday | Why Wonât My Curls Stay?
You curled your hair. It looked great.
And an hour later...where did the curls go?
A few little things can make a BIG difference when you're curling your hair at home.
Firstâand this one is non-negotiableâalways use a thermal protectant before using a curling iron or any hot tool. Heat styling can damage the hair over time, and protecting your hair should come before creating the style.
Then pay attention to a few other things:
⢠Section size matters. If you take sections that are too large, the heat may not distribute evenly enough to create a lasting curl.
⢠Don't crank up the heat unnecessarily. Hotter doesn't automatically mean a better or longer-lasting curl.
⢠Let the curl cool before touching it. Hair needs time to cool in its new shape. Pulling, brushing or running your fingers through it immediately can undo the work you just did.
⢠Watch how much product you're using. Heavy products can weigh down some hair types before you even start curling.
Once everything is completely cool, gently separate the curls with your fingers and finish with the appropriate styling product for your hair.
And rememberânot everyone's hair holds curl the same way. Your hair type, condition, haircut and even the products you're using can affect your results.
As an Appleton hairstylist, these are exactly the kinds of little styling adjustments I can help you troubleshoot during your appointment.
What's harder for youâcreating the curl or getting it to STAY?

đż Sunday Reset | Clear One Mental Tab
This week's invitation...
You know that tiny thing you've been meaning to do that keeps popping back into your head?
Make the appointment. Return the package. Answer the email. Put the thing away. Write it down so you don't have to keep remembering it.
Sometimes a reset isn't about doing more. It's closing one of those little mental tabs that's been running in the background.
What's one mental tab you could close today?
Take a deep breath, reset, and step into the new week one day at a time.

Another Salon Guest Favorite Is BACK!
LOMA Texture & Finishing Spray is back in stock at Shortcuts Salon in Appleton!
If you've ever wanted your hair to have a little more texture, definition and hold without feeling stiff or overly âdone,â this is the product to try.
LOMA Texture & Finishing Spray gives you medium hold with high shine, helps resist humidity, and is especially good for creating those soft, tousled, lived-in styles that still have movement. It's suitable for all hair types, too.
Use it on dry, styled hair and either scrunch it in for more texture or smooth it with your hands for a more finished look.
It's one of those professional haircare styling products that helps give your finished style that little something it's missingâand there's a reason it's a salon guest favorite.
If you've been waiting for it, it's finally back on the shelf! đ
Have you tried this one yet?

Let's talk about the coworkers who contribute absolutely nothing to Shortcuts Salon but still seem convinced they're management.
My pets. đž
Five cats and one dogâall rescuesâand somehow every single one has their own personality, schedule and very strong opinions about how things should be run.
Animals have been a huge part of my life for a very long time, and pet stories are definitely a regular topic with my salon guests.
So let's see the furry (or feathered, scaled, etc.) members of YOUR family.
Drop a pet photo in the comments!
Yes, I fully expect this comment section to become nothing but adorable animals.

Did you know fine hair and thin hair aren't the same thing?
It's one of those hair terms we tend to use interchangeablyâbut they describe different things.
Hair texture refers to the diameter of an individual strand.
Hair density refers to how many strands you have on your head.
That means you can have very fine individual strands but LOTS of them. Or you can have larger individual strands with lower overall density.
Why does your hairstylist care?
Because texture and density can both affect the haircut, styling techniques and professional hair products I recommend.
It's one of the reasons two people can show me the exact same inspiration photo and need completely different approaches to achieve their best result.
Hair is definitely not one-size-fits-all.

This week's invitation...
Open your phone and scroll through your photos from the last month.
But don't immediately start deleting things.
First, look.
Find one photo that makes you laugh, one that brings back a good memory, and one you completely forgot you took.
We take hundreds of pictures because we want to remember our livesâand then most of them disappear into our camera rolls.
Pick one you love and do something with it.
Print it. Make it your phone background. Send it to the person who's in it.
What's the last photo on your phone that made you genuinely smile?
Take a deep breath, reset, and step into the new week one day at a time.
