Our Staff of the Week is 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Verhagen!🎉

Principal Heu says, "Tiffany, our 2nd grade teacher, continues to shine through her leadership, flexibility, and commitment to doing what is best for students. She has stepped up as a valued member of our CSIP Leadership Team, contributing her voice, ideas, and perspective to help move our school forward.

Tiffany is also such a strong team player. She is willing to be flexible, collaborate with others, and adjust when needed. What I especially appreciate is her willingness to put students first, even when the best decision for students may not be what she originally wanted or envisioned.

Thank you, Tiffany, for modeling what it means to lead with a student-first mindset, support your colleagues, and be willing to do what is best for kids. We are grateful to have you on our Championship Team!"

Meet our Youth Advocate, Mrs. Reinhold!

Principal Heu says, "Anna has been working hard to strengthen family engagement, create a warm and welcoming environment, and support our students. She has also helped organize and plan our Staff Kick-off Breakfast and Back-to-School Conference Dinner in collaboration with our amazing PTO. Anna also helped create our staff Essential & Specialist Scavenger Hunt activity for our families on Back-to-School Conference Nights, bringing some fun and connection to the start of our school year!

Thank you, Anna, for all the ways you help our students, families, and staff feel welcomed, supported, and connected! 💛"

What a special way to start the school year!

During our first all-school assembly of the year, Superintendent Greg Hartjes had the honor of presenting Kathy Munson, Johnston Grade 4 Teacher, with the Helen & Ade Dillon Award.

The Dillon Award recognizes an AASD staff member who encourages a balanced life for students, both in and out of the classroom. Kathy exemplifies this commitment through the care she shows for her students’ moral, mental, and physical development, helping them build the life skills they need to grow as learners, individuals, and citizens.

We’re so proud to celebrate Mrs. Munson and the positive impact she has on her students and the Johnston Elementary community.

Congratulations! 👏👏👏

This week we're shining a spotlight on our 5th grade teacher, Miss Herrera! 🎉

Principal Heu says, "This week, we want to celebrate Ally Herrera and the many ways she contributes to our school community.
What has stood out about Ally is her flexibility, collaboration, and willingness to embrace change. As we have worked through some challenges at the start of the school year, Ally has been a thoughtful thinking partner—willing to listen, share ideas, problem-solve, and help us find the best path forward for students.

Ally brings a positive and supportive spirit to her work and reminds us that sometimes the greatest impact comes from simply being willing to step in, work together, and be part of the solution.
Thank you, Ally, for your flexibility, positivity, and partnership. We appreciate all that you bring to our Johnston/HAIS school community!"💛
