We'd like to sincerely thank the Arvada Vitality Alliance - AVA, attendees, and sponsors of the 3rd annual Guns 'N Hoses Charity Softball earlier this summer! Our rally fell just short against the Arvada Police Department in the championship game, but everyone wins with $2,000 going to the winning team's charity/foundation and $1,000 for the runners-up.

Today, the AVA presented us with a check for our cause— Friends of Arvada Fire! The Friends of Arvada Fire purchases equipment and supplies to support firefighter and community safety. For instance, they are a big supporter of the smoke alarms needed for our free Home Safety Visit program, which leads to hundreds of smoke alarms being installed in our community in homes with expired or no alarms present.

🚒 That's a wrap on Safety Day 2026! We had an absolutely beautiful day and a great turnout at our Training Center for our free annual safety fair.

With dozens of first response agencies, safety vendors and community partners, those who attended received some wonderful resources and safety information about topics like hands-only CPR, wildfire mitigation, bike safety and more. There was no shortage of highlights either with demonstrations from Waffle the arson investigation canine, the MedEvac landing from Boulder, and auto extrication from firefighters.

Safety Day reflects one of our core beliefs at Arvada Fire: informed and prepared communities are stronger, safer, and more resilient. Thanks to all who attended! We hope you had a great time, and we look forward to seeing you next year.

Safety Day is tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 26th) from 10 AM-2 PM at the Training Center located on 6651 Indiana Street! This is our free, family-friendly fair with first responders, safety vendors, live demonstrations and activities.

Here's what to know before you go...

1️⃣ Parking is available in the lot to the north of the Training Center near the City fleet maintenance building. Arvada CERT volunteers are on hand to help park guests and point you in the right direction. Handicap parking is coned off and available in the first row of the lot to the north— just tell a CERT volunteer if you need one of these spots.

2️⃣ The event is open from 10 AM-2 PM. When you arrive, visit the check-in table at the front of the building to receive your map and passport stamp. If you visit every booth on the passport, you receive a prize!

3️⃣ There are several scheduled demonstrations. One of our favorites, the CommonSpirit - Flight for Life helicopter landing, will likely take place between 11:15-11:30 AM. However, this is entirely dependent on their availability (if an emergency happens, they may be busy saving a life)! We'll also have car extrication demos with firefighters at 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM and wildfire simulations on the SimTable at the top of every hour. Every other activity (like apparatus tours and a youth obstacle course) and vendor booths are available through the duration of the event.

4️⃣ Portable bathrooms will be available on the Training Center grounds, and a water fountain is available in the apparatus bay.

5️⃣ The weather looks perfect! It's going to be a warm, sunny fall day. Bring water, some sunscreen, and shoes you are comfortable walking in.

Our first responders and partners can't wait to see you... Come on out for a day dedicated to fun, building community, and most importantly: empowering eachother with safety information and preparedness.

Arvada Fire’s Engineer Academy is developing and training the next generation of engineers within our district! This academy was held one day a week for five weeks at our Training Center.

In case you didn’t know, the engineer is a promoted position in the fire service that's responsible for operating, maintaining, and driving fire apparatus. They must know every single thing about their fire engine or truck—how to drive it, operate it, pump it, and keep it working. Becoming an engineer requires extensive knowledge along with state testing and certification.

This is why the engineer academy is so important; programs like this help prepare our firefighters for promotional opportunities and to better serve our community.

Arvada Fire recently met with media to talk about our technical rescue team. As an all-hazards fire district, we train for and respond to any and all types of emergencies from fires to EMS, technical rescue, and beyond.

In this story, Firefighter Gallup shared some of our technical rescue equipment and tools, and Lt. Paramedic Mike Roluti discussed safety lessons from recent rescues, such as:

• Always climb with a partner for safety.
• Know your exact location that way you can inform dispatchers of your position in the event of an emergency. Tell a friend when and where you plan on recreating/climbing and when you plan to return.
• Be informed of weather conditions, sunset time, and understand your limits.
• Carry a first aid kit and needed medical supplies, such as an EpiPen for those with severe allergies.

Thanks to for coming out to talk about technical rescue and safety! 👇

Congratulations to Thomas Lyons on being promoted to the rank of Captain! With 17 years of experience in the fire service, Captain Lyons was presented with his new badge from Deputy Chief Osier earlier this week.

A native of Wheat Ridge, Lyons joined his hometown fire department in 2009 before being hired by Arvada Fire in 2016. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2022. He's served out of many of our stations, most recently as the officer on Station 51 B Shift. He'll now be assigned to Station 58 B Shift and will officially be sworn in to his new rank at a future Board meeting.

In his new role, Capt. Lyons is looking forward to creating a high-functioning firehouse that holds high standards in all aspects in pursuit of saving lives and protecting property. Lyons enjoys the close bonds created both in the firehouse and at home, where he is supported by his wife and two children. Congratulations, Captain!
