-To cool their bodies
-Chase away bugs
-Listen for danger
Their ears have many tiny blood vessels that release heat, while movements keep flies away and help them hear in open water.
Just one week after welcoming a water buffalo calf - we have ANOTHER baby! This time a bison.
Always a precious sight! 💕

It might still be summertime, but we are daydreaming about the fall colors + cooler temps we will have at the ranch in the next few months. 😍

Why is it important to put out hay even though the animals are in pastures of grass?
-Ranchers put out hay to supplement livestock nutrition because drought, and extreme heat can cause the pastures to be bare.
-Feeding hay also lets pastures that are over grazed rest and regrow.
-Early spring and summer hay can also be too watery and low in dry matter. The dry hay adds needed fiber, and energy helping balance the diet of the animals.
You have probably seen dogs and cats get the zoomies, but what about an EMU? The emu family was spotted today with a case of the zoomies, and they are just too cute and funny! 🤭
When you finally find a way to make it to the open grass, and hit the all you can eat buffet.
And then the fun police show up to send you back where you’re supposed to be. 😒 🤭

At White bison ranch we have a variety of unique animals other than just our bison. One of them being zebras. 🦓
Fun fact:
Contrary to popular belief zebras are actually black with white stripes not white with black stripes.
