Lay Park

Cooking Club Wednesdays at Lay Park!

Each Monday, our middle school afterschool students choose what they want to make during cooking club. Last week, they made homemade cinnamon rolls from scratch. This week, they made Chick-fil-A-inspired chicken sandwiches!

Good food, new skills, and lots of fun in the kitchen!

Our afterschool students had a special visitor at Lay Park!

Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz stopped by to spend some time with our students, the Mayor read "Pete the Cat", answered their questions, and talked with them about the community they call home.

Thank you, Mayor Girtz, for taking the time to visit our students! We appreciate you stopping by Lay Park! Thank you Lay Park Resource Center for setting up our special visit!

Last week was all about learning beyond the community center! Our middle school after-school students visited First Impressions Barbershop to learn about barbering, entrepreneurship and the many career opportunities available through the skilled trades.

A big thank you to First Impressions for opening their doors and giving our students the opportunity to see what it takes to turn a skill into a career and a business!

Our 123 Toddler & Me participants at Lay Park had fun making delicious carrot, apple and banana mini muffins! From mixing ingredients to enjoying their tasty creations, our little chefs had a great time learning and having fun together. 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Our Thomas Lay After School students had a blast welcoming UGA’s National Black Engineers Society (NBES)! Students explored engineering pathways, built catapults, and tested their designs by launching objects into buckets.

Thank you, UGA NBES, for making STEM fun and hands-on!

Afterschool fun at Lay Park! Tuesdays mean cooking club for our students, yesterday we made S'mores Popcorn Balls and the students rated them 10 out of 10!!! Be on the look out for more afterschool fun.

Who doesn't love a good old fashioned egg hunt? Join us on Friday, October 2nd at 6:00 PM for our annual Pumpkin Hunt at Lay Park. Activities include fall themed games, crafts, photo booth and our pumpkin egg hunt for treats.
