Ironing

Tldr: a benefit track for Uncle Lou.

This is an excerpt of a set I played at Uncle Lou's in Orlando, FL on March 13, 2010 as part of a show with The Show Is The Rainbow, Yip-Yip, Janet Night, & Manson Family (an Orlando noise group). This was my third time playing there. It was an unusual set for me. From what I can recall / figure out, my amp was being repaired so I used a reduced, mixerless set-up that I had recently used to play the International Noise Conference: one handheld tape player, a multi-component stereo, and a borrowed amp with two inputs. This made for a more stripped down cut-up set.

Uncle Lou was arrested and subsequently detained by ICE in May 2026. He has since chosen to stop fighting his case and self-deport to Jamaica. More information can be found here:

This has been heartbreaking for the community.

When a benefit compilation for Uncle Lou was announced I dug through old hard drives until I found the original video file for this set. I ripped the audio and edited out this section. My friend at SnackLabs generously mastered it.

This was submitted to the compilation but was not included. But it can still serve the intended purpose, and this is why I release it today: any proceeds from this track will be donated to Uncle Lou's living expenses as he works to make a new life in Jamiaca. Houda Eletr interviewed me about Ironing for the Orlando Weekly in advance of my show on Thursday (tomorrow!) at My Sister's House in Winter Park. Read it here:

Ride the chaos flow with Ironing at My Sister's House in Winter Park this week “If I practice, I’ll practice techniques, but not ever try to recapture exactly what happened a certain way when I was practicing, because it’ll never happen the same way twice,” Chadwick says.
