Remembering September 11 — 9:03 AM CDT

Twenty-five years ago today, at 9:03 AM CDT (10:03 AM EDT), United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. After learning that their aircraft had been hijacked as part of the attacks unfolding that morning, passengers and crew courageously fought back against the hijackers. Their actions prevented the aircraft from reaching its intended target, believed to have been the U.S. Capitol.

At this hour of remembrance, we invite you to pause wherever you are and pray. Pray for the families and loved ones of the passengers and crew who lost their lives, and offer a prayer of gratitude for the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of those aboard Flight 93 who acted to protect countless others.

With this fourth candle, we remember that even in the darkest moments, the light of God remains present—revealed through courage, selflessness, sacrifice, and love for others.

Today, we honor the passengers and crew of Flight 93 and remember the courage they showed when faced with unimaginable circumstances.

We remember. We honor. We pray. We will never forget. 🕯️

Twenty-five years ago today, at 8:37 AM CDT (9:37 AM EDT), American Airlines Flight 77, hijacked by terrorists, struck the western side of the Pentagon. The attack claimed the lives of those aboard the aircraft and many who were working inside the Pentagon that morning.

At this hour of remembrance, we invite you to pause wherever you are and pray. Pray for the families and loved ones of those whose lives were lost and offer a prayer of gratitude for the first responders, military personnel, emergency workers, and ordinary citizens who courageously answered the call to help.

With this third candle, we remember that even in the midst of unimaginable darkness, the light of God was still present—working through acts of courage, compassion, sacrifice, and love.

We remember. We honor. We pray. We will never forget. 🕯️

We invite our church family and community to join us as we pack 60,000 meals for children in Haiti.

Each year, Athens First Methodist partners with Mission of Hope to provide enough meals to help feed children throughout an entire school year. Your financial gifts make this ministry possible—but we also need you to help us pack the meals!

On Sunday, September 27, 2026, we will set aside our normal worship services and come together as a church to serve through this important mission.

Meal Packing Times: 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM

Come be part of a day of service, fellowship, and hope as we work together to make a difference in the lives of children in Haiti.

Please contact Athens First Methodist to volunteer or for more information.
