🌲East Texas at War - The Regulator-Moderator War, Part 4
By the early 1840s, the conflict had grown far beyond a few isolated incidents.
East Texas was now in the middle of a full-scale feud.
Communities were divided. Neighbors chose sides. What had started as small groups had turned into organized factions, carrying out ambushes, shootings, and even hangings.
Violence spread across multiple counties, and fear became part of everyday life.
One of the most well-known clashes took place at Church Hill, where tensions between the two sides erupted into open fighting. Two hundred Moderators attacked 60 Regulators.
This was no longer about justice.
East Texas was at war with itself.
