Five Eight news!
SHORT VERSION:
Patrick has moved. John Swint is our new drummer.

LONG VERSION:
Our brother and drummer Patrick Ferguson has moved to Bloomington, Indiana. We’re sad to see him move away from Athens and have loved these last 20 years of having him back in the fold. He was our drummer from 1989 - 1997 and again from 2007 - 2026. In that near decade when he was gone, we had all grown and changed and came back together stronger than ever when he and Sean returned to the band in 2007/2008. They helped us regroup as a band and as people in a way that was really beautiful for us personally and creatively. Patrick produced one of our best-sounding records (2010’s Your God Is Dead to Me Now) and remembers everything that ever happened on the road. We’ll still probably text him to find out where the good food and coffee in any given city can be found. He will know. We hope he writes that book someday — it will be fantastic.

We’re reminded of Patrick on the Jacob Givens podcast saying “We didn’t just grow up together, we’re growing old together.” Mission accomplished; we are old. Patrick will always be a foundational element of what made Five Eight work. We love him and look forward to seeing him when our paths cross again.

But Five Eight can’t be stopped. Young John Swint (from Modern Skirts and Luxury Vehicle) is our new drummer. He also plays in The Bad Ends with Mike and he filled-in for our SXSW run last year and brought an exciting new energy to the songs. We’re recording something new with Swint for the first time on Monday and we can’t wait for our fans to hear what he brings to the table. Onward, weirdos!
