Athens Area Humane Society

The kittens just keep coming! We’ve recently welcomed another influx of tiny arrivals, which means our adoption and foster teams could use a little help stocking up on a couple of kitten essentials. This week, we’re asking for cat toys and kitten scales to help us care for all these little ones as they grow.

Toys give our kittens plenty of opportunities to play, explore, and burn off some of that seemingly endless kitten energy, while scales are especially important for our youngest foster babies. Regular weigh-ins help our team and foster families keep track of their growth and make sure everyone is developing as they should.

Both items can be found on our Amazon Wishlist linked in our bio, where you can purchase them and have them shipped directly to the shelter! Donations can also be dropped off at the Athens Area Humane Society Tuesday through Sunday from 9 AM–6 PM. 🐾

🩷 Missy 🩷

Meet Missy, one of our longest-resident canine friends and a girl who has fully embraced the free-spirit lifestyle. Missy is goofy, adventurous, and generally unconcerned with anything that might interrupt her good time. She can get a little excited when meeting someone new, but once she settles in, she’s more than happy to trade that enthusiasm for walks, cuddles, and quality time with her people.

There’s also a pretty smart brain behind all that silliness! Missy already knows sit, speak, and lay down, and her love of treats makes her eager to show off what she knows. Above all else, though, this girl LOVES being outside. Hiking trails, trips to the park, long walks, or simply exploring somewhere new... Missy would make a great companion for someone looking for an adventurous best friend who can cuddle up with them afterward.

If you’d like to meet this foster friend, submit an adoption application on our website at www.athenshumanesociety.org. Your info will be sent to the foster family to learn more about this sweetie and schedule a meet-and-greet! For more information about fostering, visit www.athenshumanesociety.org/foster. 🐾

💚 Dum-Dum 💚

He’s curious, playful, and always seems to have an opinion he’d be happy to share. He’s famous around here for his tiny love nibbles and plenty of sandpaper kisses when he’s feeling especially fond of you.

🧡 Loki 🧡

Despite sharing a name with the god of mischief, Loki doesn’t seem particularly interested in elaborate schemes or causing chaos (he might be saving for AFTER you adopt him 😉). His current preferred method of trickery is much simpler: convince you to give him 110% of your time and attention, then make it nearly impossible to leave. This one-year-old orange boy is incredibly affectionate and will greet you with as many head bumps and chin rubs as he can manage the moment you enter his quad.

Loki loves being close to his people and is well on his way to becoming a professional lap cat. He’s cuddly, social, and would happily follow you around just to make sure you haven’t somehow forgotten about him in the last thirty seconds.

Come meet Loki at the Athens Area Humane Society in Athens, GA! Our Adoption Center is open 9 AM–6 PM, Tuesday through Sunday, and closed on Mondays. Visit www.athenshumanesociety.org and head to our “Adoptable Pets” page to see if he’s still available. If his photo is there, he’s ready to meet you! If not, his scheme worked and he charmed his way off to a new kingdom! 🐾

🤎 Wendigo 🤎

Wendigo is our five-year-old tabby gentleman who has perfected the art of looking deeply disappointed in every decision you’ve ever made. Don’t let the resting judgment face fool you, behind that unimpressed expression is an incredibly sweet and calm boy who appreciates the simple things in life. Give him a comfy cushion, plenty of pets, and absolutely nothing on the schedule, and Wendigo is a happy man.

And because every mysterious gentleman needs a little unexplained lore, Wendigo is also missing his tail. Where did it go? What has he seen? What secrets does he carry? We don’t know, and that face certainly isn’t giving us any answers. What we do know is that this tailless little cryptid is an easygoing sweetheart who would be perfectly content lounging the day away with his people.

Come meet Wendigo at the Athens Area Humane Society, located at 1030 Mitchell Bridge Road in Athens, GA! Our Adoption Center is open 9 AM–6 PM, Tuesday through Sunday, and closed on Mondays. Visit www.athenshumanesociety.org and head to our “Adoptable Pets” page to see if he’s still available. If his photo is there, he’s ready to meet you! If not, he mysteriously disappeared off to new adventures! Got questions about Wendigo? Give our Adoption Center a call today! 🐾

🎡 London 🎡

Ten years old? London would like to see some identification before accepting that accusation. This beautiful tabby queen has aged like fine w**e and still has plenty of love left to give. London isn’t one to demand the spotlight... instead, she quietly wins you over with her gentle, sweet personality. A few good head rubs are usually all it takes to get that purr motor going, and once she’s comfortable with you, she’ll happily settle in and soak up all the affection you have to offer. She’s a lovely older lady looking for a soft place to land and someone who appreciates the finer things in life: peace, pets, and a good nap.

🧡 Koji 🧡

This chonky boy is one of our newer arrivals and has quickly discovered the quiet comfort of his condo cubbies, where he can lounge uninterrupted and contemplate absolutely nothing. He can be a little shy when you first meet him, but Koji is always willing to negotiate the terms of your friendship with a few treats and some gentle pets.
