Mike Miller, a highly successful Midwestern stock car racer and American Speed Association standout, passed away September 29 at age 80 after battling cancer.

Miller began racing hobby stocks in Minnesota in the early 1970s before moving into late models. He became a winner at tracks across the Midwest, including Rockford Speedway, where he captured the 1973 National Short Track Championships 200.

Over his career, Miller earned approximately 116 stock car feature wins, including multiple track championships at Golden Sands, State Park and Dells Motor Speedway.

He also recorded five ARTGO Challenge Series victories and became a full-time ASA competitor from 1993 through 2001. Miller won 16 ASA races, with five victories coming in 1999, when he finished second in the championship standings, just six points behind the title.

Miller also made two NASCAR Cup Series starts in 1980, competing at Charlotte and Atlanta.
