Paid leave reduces: perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, stress long-term mental health strain. And still it’s not guaranteed in the U.S. So what happens? Women fill the gap. They return to work early. They push through recovery. They carry the emotional and logistical load. And when it becomes too much, we individualize the outcome. This is not just a health issue. It’s a systems issue. A business issue. A public health issue. If this is showing up in your organization, this is the work I partner with leaders to change.
We keep treating maternal mental health like an individual issue.
But the research is clear:paid leave improves mental health outcomes.
This isn’t a “nice to have.”It’s structural support.
And without it,women are expected to carry it all
What are you seeing where you are, how quickly are mothers expected to return to work?
If this is something your organization is grappling with, I’d welcome a conversation about what needs to change.
Maternal mental health is not just about support. It’s about time. And right now, time is not something our systems are designed to give. If this tension exists where you work,
I partner with organizations to rethink how time, recovery, and contribution are actually held.
