September Tree of the Month: Common Pawpaw (Asimina triloba)
The common pawpaw is one of North America’s most overlooked native fruit trees. Standing at up to 40 feet tall, this humble understory tree thrives widely across the east coast and even as far west as Texas.
The fruit, when ripe, is tropically sweet and soft, fitting right in as the northernmost member of the Annonaceae or Custard Apple family. The pawpaw’s more commonly known family members include soursop and the sugar apple which are native to Central America and the Caribbean.
Next time you see one, consider trying one of these overlooked treasures!

We celebrate the hard work of the trainees and wish them continued growth and success in their new career pathways!
UFOR is funded through a grant from U.S. Forest Service, and is made possible through a partnership of Trees Atlanta, Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency (ACSS), Birds Georgia, and Atlanta Beltline.

"The Oak King reminds Jo Rytter of her daughter, she said. In some cultures, an oak tree is referred to as a giving tree, since it provides so much sustenance for other creatures. "
The big event is Saturday on the Westside Trail stepping off at Adair Park. If you want to walk in the parade and need a lantern, join us earlier at the Lantern Parade Procrastination Station at the TreeHouse. Please tell us you are coming by registering on our website.
Look in comments for a great AJC article about the Lantern Parade featuring Chantelle Rytter and Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons, as well as the link to register for Procrastination Station.
Glow on!
