You don’t want to lose or limit your ability to extend your torso or your thoracic spine. It can lead to your chest being pulled towards the floor and the inability to get your hands over your head without putting wear and tear on your shoulders and your neck if you’re an athlete, thoracic extension is important for so many reasons, generating power, and speed.

The re**us Abdominis muscle is our six pack muscle, and everybody loves to do situps and crunches to get a flat belly well, if we do too many of those without stretching, it can pull our chest forward and limit our ability to extend the thoracic spine.

Here is a stretch!

Many of my clients are corporate professionals who often ask me about their desk set up. Here are a few key features that I recommend:

1. Sit tall and maintain a neutral lumbar curve. Use a lumbar support if your chair does not have one.

2. keep elbows at 90 to 110°.

3. He should be looking down 10 to 20° at your screen.

4. Alternate your mouse hand to help with overuse syndromes.

5. Sit 20-30” screen. If you have to sit closer than you may need an eye exam.

Your posture isn’t just about how you stand.

It’s about how your body moves, stabilizes, and works together.

During a posture assessment, I look beyond what you can see—assessing things like mobility, muscle balance, core stability, and how your body is functioning as a whole.

Because better posture isn’t just about looking better.

It’s about moving better and feeling better.

Maintaining good range of motion of hip external and Internal rotation is very important and to maintain function and avoid compensations that can cause hip pain and lower back pain.
Try this self assessment to see where you are with both internal and external hip rotation. If you find that you can’t do one and it feels tight you can simply hold it in that position to stretch.

In part three of how to relieve shoulder tension, we talk about forward head posture, and how that causes muscles to work hard harder on the back of your neck and in your upper back. And by improving forward, head posture, you can relieve tension and use those muscles more appropriately.
Most people aren’t even aware that their head should not get too far forward. They just think that overtime with age that that is natural, and that is somewhat true as we get older.
The big thing to know here is with simple exercises and stretches you can keep your head posture in a more neutral position for a longer portion of your life.

What’s crazy about the body is that a tight muscle can also feel like a taught muscle. So when it comes to your upper shoulders, we need to figure out are they tight or are they taught and a great way to do that is to determine what the length tension in the muscle.
When our shoulders are height, that is a sign there’s too much tension in the muscle, and when our shoulders are depressed, that’s a sign. That’s too much tautness in the muscle tension would equal stretching while tautness would equal strength strengthening

One simple way for you to do this at home is to look in the mirror and see if your clavicle has an upward pitch of it of 10 to 20°. If it doesn’t then you may want to consider strengthening your upper trapezius or upper shoulders and if it has too much inclination, you may want to consider release work and stretching to relieve tension.

It seems everyone has upper trapezius tension. The first thing we all try is massage and stretching. Often those two provide relief, but just not sustained relief.

In the first part of this series, I discuss how your breathing pattern can lead to constant upper trapezius tension that seems to never go away.

If there was one thing that I see most often, it is a dysfunctional breathing pattern and upper trapezius tension. So give this test to go, and if you find that you have a dysfunctional breathing pattern try to improve it on your own, and if you need help, please click the link below to book an assessment to get to the bottom of your aches and pains for good.

Kinesiology has measured and established ideal spinal curves for proper force transfer and ideal compression. When these curves are out of balance, it could potentially explain, persistent pain, and medical diagnosis of pathologies.
by assessing for the spinal curves and correcting them to a more ideal position, I help people not only relieve pain, but also optimize their spine for healthy aging.

Exercising in pain is never fun and many people do it for years, just ignoring the pain and thinking it will go away on its own. In our capitalistic culture, there are all types of things that you can buy that will help with the pain in the short term, but to truly get to the reason of the pain, we have to look at the whole person with a thorough assessment.

I offer an objective assessment where I use tools to gain measurements so we know exactly where your deficiencies are coming from. I then can prescribe and show you exercises, movements, ergonomics and lifestyle advice to help with healing and treating the pain.
I believe pain is out. Is trying to get our attention, so we don’t need to ignore. We need to listen. I help people listen and give your body what it needs to heal.
